Miller, a molecular biologist and physician and Gregory Conko, senior fellow at Competitive Enterprise Institution, argues in “Labeling of Genetically Modified Food Is Unnecessary and Unconstitutional” against labeling GM foods. They report, “Government mandated labeling of genetically modified foods would convey irrelevant information and would be a violation of the first Amendment” (pg.1). This is so far from the truth, conveying what is in what we eat is very relevant and not telling us is a violation of our first Amendment. They even go on to say that, “But instead of educating or serving a legitimate consumers’ “need to know” certain information, mandatory labels on gene-spliced food would imply a warning” (pg. 3).
In short, technology has far-reaching consequences for business development, socioeconomics, technological development, healthcare, the environment, and agriculture. By reintegrating rice plants you can save thousands of lives. By sorting eggs, you can avoid giving birth to children with congenital chronic diseases, and instead give healthy and healthy children. If so, what was caused by all the resistance the technology has received? How is it ethically wrong to re-plant a plant if it means saving lives?
At this time, there are still a lot of things unknown about GMOs and how it affects humans and the environment and going organic is the best option right now. Genetically modifying our food does have its advantages. The human population relies on food. If there is less food, the population declines, if there is more food, the population grows. This has happened throughout history.
Human health alone is not the full extent of the problems related to genetically engineered foods. The effects that the pesticides have on our environment are also a major concern. Dangerous toxins are excreted into our water supply. That alone should be enough to raise some eyebrows, but there’s still even more. Large companies have totally neglected any responsibility to what is best for the common good, and have greedily taken advantage of our capitalist country to increase their own personal wealth at the expense of others.
Organic Vs. Processed Organic food has come a long way, but for what? All those labels saying, pure, organic, no chemicals, the list goes on and on. Organic food versus processed has been a big dispute because people are so “brain washed” they think they can just believe what they are told and what they read. Through my research, I will prove that organic food is just like any other food.
Many argue that "superfoods" is just a term created and pushed by companies as a marketing ploy in order to sell their products. There is also no real proof from scientific research which can support "superfoods" as the ultimate source for nutrients. There are two types of "superfoods," processed and unprocessed; this paper will be focusing on processed "superfoods." Unprocessed "superfoods" maintain their structural integrity, externally and/or internally. Fruits picked from the trees are examples of unprocessed "superfoods."
Dear Senator, In less than two decades, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have replaced our diet with genetically ajusted foods, which can affect human health. GMOs are resistant to pesticides, and is created by splicing genes that are combined through genetic engineering, smething nature cant do instantly. Consuming these genetically, processed foods can lead to increased risk of diseases and even cancer. Most of the time we do not realize that we are eating these harmful toxins as they are infused in our food without our knowledge. While traditional farming choose to grow organic produce and struggle to keep their businesses alive.
Monsanto Case Study Monsanto has a huge sales market and is the world’s largest seed company. They specialize in genetic engineering, which is a field of biotechnology that manipulates organisms at the genetic level. Over the last few decades, the scientists at Monsanto have been modifying crop genes. In the gene modification process, either the seed’s already existing genes are adapted or the seed has new genes integrated into it. These genetic modifications result in crops that produce higher yields, survive weeks of drought, and resist the invasion of pests and weeds.
Even if the chickens manage to get sick, they are still sent to the plant. So how do we change this all? Well firstly, as a consumer we should be more aware of the chicken we’re buying and have to stop buying chicken from companies like Tyson that treat their chicken horribly. If more and more people stopped buying from companies such as Tyson, then Tyson would be forced to change their ways. We should do our homework and find which chicken meat producers are producing 100% organic chicken who are feed grains and vegetables.
Wyatt Hinze Period 4 GMOs GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) are the product of the human race trying to keep up with the growing number of people needing food and are made to increase productivity and harvest. They are created from scientists Changing the DNA of said organisms so they are more resistant to diseases and pests. For example the roundup ready soybeans created by the Monsanto corporation are resistant to roundup and if you have seen the movie Food Inc. you know some of the effects this has had. As a consumer I think GMOs should be labeled because we do not know what the effects of them to the environment and our bodies. They could destroy an ecosystem or cause genetic mutations in humans or make us into super
