He is ashamed of her foreign family and remembers with disgust how Jelka's father advised him on their wedding night to beat her once in a while, Their Marriage is not a nor mal because Jelka is quiet and spends her time making Jim's happy and taking care of the house. Jim's hot dinner is waiting no matter what time he comes in from the fields. Also, Jim makes no emotional connection with her and eventually looks elsewhere for companionship. Therefore, after a year of being bored with Jelka, Jim starts to long for the company of silly, chatty women and begins to go to the "Three Star," which is a brothel in Monterey where he often amused himself prior to his marriage. One particular Saturday night Jim decides to go to town and is meets his local farmer who tells him he found a slaughtered calf's remains with Jim's brand upon the hide.
However she doesn’t cry because they have been reunited but because of the materialism that Gatsby has presented to her. Gatsby thinks that he has won her back and so they talk more and end up having a good night. Since daisy comes over now more often Gatsby had to fire his servants because he doesn’t want them to tell Daisy about the party’s he had been throwing every
At the start of the story Ben and Daisy play happily together, even though Ben is wary of his mum catching them together he is still able to enjoy Daisy’s company. This highlights that without being influenced by his mother Ben would have freely played with Daisy and never minded what colour her skin was. However Ben is uneasy around because of his mother’s racist behaviour, he knows that his mother will do if Daisy is caught in the garden with him. He therefore confesses to Daisy that he is not allowed be playing with a ‘’nigger’’. This racial language is disgusting and should not be said by a young boy, but it goes to show that Ben has inherited some of his mother’s racism.
Take Beryl for example, Carl never has enough confidence and motivation to stand up to her for the way she treats Harley. It is only towards the end of the book where he finally stands up for himself and also Harley. Justine played a big role in this, because as Carl started opening up to her, he became more and more confident and self-assured. Beryl never took responsibility for the kids. “If you just stayed with him, Kept an eye on him, loved him, he wouldn’t get into trouble.’ It’s because of Beryl Harley gets into strife.
Homer knew that his father, John would get angry with him if he stood up to him, but he still had the courage to do that. Courage was displayed when Homer said to his father something like, "No, I'm not going to work tomorrow. I'll never work there. I'll never go down in that mine again. Never."
Paul is a good person I would have to say maybe a little lost and miss guided but a good person in general poetic person his deep but you have to know the intentions of his character. His father seemed like a good man trying to make a honest living for him and his family but I could see where he could be stern. His teachers seemed not to like Paul at all repulsed by Paul and his actions. Most of the people in the theatre didn’t seem to mind Paul at all until they were told by his dad not to let him into the theater. 6.
He was never a man to take the blame but rather say that his actions were just reactions of unfortunate events that others caused. Even though he too, along with Daisy, was not loyal to his partner, he never once admitted he was wrong. He would proceed to lollygag with Myrtle and come home to accuse Daisy of her unloyal actions towards him. A man with that much fortitude cannot be happy with whom he is or he would not be accusing anyone of anything.”…and as we drove away Tom was feeling the hot whips of panic. His wife and his mistress, until an hour ago secure and inviolate were slipping precipitately from his control.”(p.119) Tom knows that Daisy only married him for his money and although she has developed feelings for him, he fears that if he leaves her for Myrtle she will turn to Gatsby.
After he apologizes to her for saying he didn’t like her husband Claude reflects on Mrs. Meitner. Claude says he didn’t hate her husband because he made Mrs. Meitner happy but he hated Hitler for taking away her happiness. This shows how empathetic Claude was at such a young age. Even though he did not completely want to give up on the idea of marrying Mrs. Meitner he wanted her to be happy and “let her go.” This shows how Claude has traits that no other kid had his age. By seeing past Claude Brown’s bad boy ways of robbing, drug use and thuggish persona you see very grown up attitude of a kid not even in high school.
