Introducing the Speech: Global Warming is the world’s most “debilitating disease”. One could compare it to the human disease HIV/AIDS. It shows no mercy to any region, race, or religion. It affects anybody and everybody. If we do not do something to stop it now, eventually it will kill us all.
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience on what global warming is, the causes of it, and how to decrease them.
Central Idea: Global Warming is a growing epidemic in America however it can be easily lessened through small changes in each person’s individual lives.
Attention Getter: Picture this: It’s the year 2050. You wake up early one morning because you promised your grandkids that you were going to teach them how to garden. You go to reach for the phone to call them but the line is dead. You then turn on the light to see if the phone is unplugged but that’s not working either. Then you realize by the time that you get out of bed that all the floors in your house are soaking wet. Maybe you forgot to turn off the sink last night you think to yourself, but you didn’t. This is unusual because the weather forecast read clear and sunny for the next week so it can’t be rain. You go outside to see if it’s raining but its not. To your astonishment all the streets are flooded and it is unbearably hot. It seems like you have almost walked into a sauna that was forgotten to be turned off. It is not though. The worse is starting to happen. Global Warming has become uncontrollable and life as you know it is soon at its end.
Concluding Sentence: In my speech I am going to tell you what Global Warming is and the main causes of it. I will also show you the main ways to reduce them.
I. Global Warming is defined as the human-caused emissions of green-house gases that in turn increase the global mean surface temperature.
