  1. US Military Budget vs. Other US Priorities

Claim: In the year of 2010 the U.S. spent majority of the American tax payers money on the military budget than anything else (roughly 39%). The U.S. should use tax payer money towards other U.S. priorities.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to inform the American citizens on what majority of their 2010 tax payer money got spent on.

Main Points: The President/Administration and Congress have direct control over the budget (making decisions as to where taxpayer money goes in the budget). The military budget spending will not decrease, but increase in coming years. Military spending is the last thought on the fellow Americans’ minds.

Support: The supports used in this article were mostly statistics; a pie graph shows the percentages of what tax payer money gets spent on every year and a regular graph of the budget breakdown.

Counterargument: Since the occurrence of the Cold War, high spending on war materials became common in the U.S.

Agree/Disagree: I agree that the U.S. does spend too much of the allocated tax payer money on the military budget. That money should be put towards and shed more light on the issues that continue to be a problem in the U.S. Help the U.S. become a better country before spending countless dollars and cents on the military budget.

  2. Growing Flowers Can Have a High Cost to Growers
Claim: Growing flowers divert land use away from growing needed food.
Purpose: To persuade individuals to stop growing as many flowers where food can take that place to grow.
Main Points: Growing flowers has an effect on low wages, child labor, pesticide poisoning and other complicated health problems, and women suffer from high miscarriage rates.
Support: This article uses support mainly from other credible sites and known educators.
Counterargument: None given.
