Girls Don’t Fly by Kristen Chandler, published in 2011. As I can see on the front cover of the book, the girl Myra is having the vision of the big blue sky. The bird is flying in the blue sky but not the girl, which represent the name of the book “Girls Don’t Fly”. Erik- Smart, perfect, rich, bit like subtle emotional abuser, Myra- Practical, self-sacrificing high school senior, self-esteem, relatable Pete- Nice, weird, unorganized Family- Unsupportive except for Carson, too focused on their own individual problems. Erik- Psychotic Pete- Condescending and weird. Other applicants- Forgettable. Myra is used to keeping her feet firmly on the ground. She has an unsupportive family, if Myra wasn't there to take care of everyone, they would probably fall apart. Her boyfriend unceremoniously dumped her and she felt like everything was gone. She did things she never would've a few months later like quitting her job, applying for a scholarship to study birds in the Galapogos Island, and falling for a guy who's encouraging her to jump off from her old life… Girls don't fly is a novel of how Myra who is lost in life, learns to find herself and see life through new eyes. I really enjoyed this book and it was such a great read. I thought the cover looked kind of childish and I was very surprised with the book when I got into it. I'm glad I gave it a try because it was pretty good. The beginning of the book was really engaging with the broking up on Myra and Erik. I liked Myra, but not her name and her family. Her family seemed to be rather unsupportive, except for Carson. Myra had a lot of responsibilities in her family and she actually involved in it. I liked the bird evolution metaphor and I did learn a few things. Pete fell in love with Myra and Erik got really angry at her.
