Calvin Silvestre AP English-05 1st Semester Mr. Doctrine “The Gioconda Smile” by Aldous Huxley demonstrates the act of vengeance in a very suspicious manner. Vengeance is usually done through deception and one's ability to show a "poker face". People try to attack those who have done them wrong by baiting them into easily falling for their trap. They deceive people through their kind behavior which hides their real identity or intention. Huxley uses internal conflict, theme, tone and irony to show how the character Ms. Spence used the act of vengeance to not only destroy Mr. Hutton’s reputation but make sure no woman besides herself could have him.
