Geography of Thailand Thailand is found in southern Asia in the western hemisphere of the world. The countries that surround Thailand are Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Thailand is about the size of France or slightly smaller that Texas. Thailand is split into 4 sections; northern, northeastern, central, and southern. The terrain in the northern region of Thailand is very mountainous characterized by natural forests and deep narrow valleys. The northeastern region is arid and characterized by a rolling surface and undulating hills. The central region is lush and fertile valley. The southern region, like the northern region, is mountainous with thick forests. Thailand is 198,455 square miles with 27.54% arable land. The climate of Thailand is Tropical with temperatures in the mid 70’s through December and January, and to the mid 80’s during April and May. Temperatures rarely fall lower than 55 degrees Fahrenheit and seldom rise above 95 degrees Fahrenheit. The average rainfall a year is 57.8 inches. There are 3 distinct seasons in Thailand; the hot summer season which is March through May, the rainy season which is May through October, and the cool season which is November through February. Thailand is known for having many natural disasters including: floods, cyclones, earthquakes, tidal waves, droughts, and landslides. Thailand also has many natural resources including: tin, rubber, natural gas, timber, lead, and fish. There are many ports in Thailand for importing and exporting goods. Some important ones are the Bangkok Port, Laem Chabang Port, Prachuap Port, and Si Racha Port. In addition to the many ports there are also many airports. There are 106 airports in Thailand. The 2 main religions in Thailand are Muslim and Buddhism. Tourism is a very big thing in Thailand, The average number of tourists’ peak to 1,007 people a month in November
