Gender Inequality In Kenya Gender inequality is used to refer to unequal treatment or assumptions of individuals because of their gender. It is made from differences in socially created gender roles. This is a global issue which is being tackled however although there are efforts being made to reduce this it remains amazingly high in most LIC countries as Kenya overall gender inequality rank dropped from 99 out of 135 in 2011 to 78 out of 136 in 2013. Kenya is ranked 78 out of 136 on the gender inequality index which is not too bad considering it is an LIC country in Africa however, Kenya is one of the more economically developed countries in Africa as it is ranked 44 out of 136 in the world which means that less developed areas are more likely to have more unequal behaviour towards women. Economic participation and opportunity Surprisingly Kenya's economic participation and opportunity equality is fairly good for a country of its status as it is ranked 44 out of 136 in the world with a score of 0.86 which beats the world average of 0.68. This means most women are getting the same economic opportunities as mean but not all as the score is not a perfect 1. This can be due to the fact that Kenya still has a very cultural sense and is very agricultural so that in rural areas most of the cases are that the men go out to work while the women stay and take care of the home and the children due to large families and the need for housework to be done as common most people cannot afford to hire someone to take care of their homes or are unwilling to do so, this is further backed up by the fact that only 32% of women are employed in non agricultural sector jobs. Furthermore wage equality in kenya is ranked 57 out of 136 in the world and scores a 0.67 which is slightly better than the world average of 0.64.
