In this critical analysis, we will first summarize the article based on the author’s thesis, then it will be compared to the readings in the textbook Cultural Anthropology. Finally, the article will be analyzed critically based on the author and his embodied experiences. Murray’s (2009) article on the Bajan queen’s and their sexual diversity show how there is a difference in the definitions of sexuality and gender in Euro-American culture and Barbadian culture. This argument was supported through Murray’s investigation of the transgender and gay community of Barbados through the point of view of the queen’s themselves. According to the transgender’s, there had always been queen’s in Bajan culture; they even had annual parades specific to the queens.
All these assumptions suggest that “if we disclosed everything, we wouldn’t have a concept of privacy” (West, 2010). As well, as if we kept everything private, which is why we have to find a balance to both. The CPM theory, started 20 years ago, when Petronio and her colleagues publish a few principles, outlining what would become of the CPM. “They noted that men and women have different criteria lead to differing rules for men and women on the subject of disclosure” (West, 2010). This concept of gender differences was mostly focused on the aspects of marital dyads, when Petronio first started her research, it was seen as a microtheory.
A Cross Cultural Examination of Sexuality: Modern vs Underdeveloped Societies Psychologists have highlighted a number of divisions regarding sexuality across a variety of cultures. The word ‘sex’ has different meanings. Sex refers to the biological and physiological differences between men and women, the most obvious being differences in their reproductive systems. Every culture controls the sexuality of its members to a certain extent, by embedding it in the institutions of family, religion and law. According to Potts & Short (1999) the core social arrangement within the institution of the family is the marital relationship.
The first sentence of the introduction explores the issue of anger and violence being higher in individuals who abuse substances. This statement is based on other research from other sources, proving that it is a problem area to be investigated. When writing a journal article, it is common for researchers to provide conceptual definitions of key terms (Pyrczak, 2008). The authors in this article discuss the concept of forgiveness therapy, clearly defining the concept for readers. They explain the process of forgiveness therapy as well.
next page To what extent do advertisements affect our sex-role perception? There have been many studies about exposure to media and its effects on human beings. In this study, we aim to look specifically at the effect of exposure to magazine advertisements on female college students’ sex-role perception. Sex-roles are “attitudes, behaviors, rights, and responsibilities that a society associates with each sex” (Holt & Ellis, 1998, as cited by Konrad & Harris, 2002, p. 2). Our perception of sex-roles could be either liberal or conservative.
I was familiarized recently with Barbara Graham’s article “The Future of Love: Kiss Romance Goodbye, It’s time for the Real Thing”. I read two versions of this article, her longer original Utne website version, and edited text from “Writing and reading across the Curriculum”. Overall, I personally found the Utne version to be more efficient, because it is more expansive compared to her text version, and the editors are to blame. In this paper, I will summarize the main idea of her article, and will discuss the differences between the effectiveness, ineffectiveness and the audience of Graham’s text and Utne content. To summarize her point, In “The Future of Love: Kiss Romance Goodbye, It’s time for the Real Thing,” She discusses the relationship between love and marriage.
This film shows the grotesque details that takes place in conversion therapy and rehabilitation programs. One of the ways in which Babbit highlighted what she called the artificiality of gender construction was by using intense blues and pinks in her production and costume design. The dramatic colors are set in place to force the young group of people and give them a visual reminder of the normative perspective of girls wearing pink and boys wearing blue. The costumes and colors of the film show how false the goals of True Directions are. The film not only highlights the ways in which gender and sexuality are constructed but also takes the norms and truths about heteronormative society and tags them queer.

This campaign was chosen firstly because sexual health was one of the 5 key areas that the Health of the Nation (Department of Health 1992) (DOH) report highlighted, including teenage conceptions. Teenage health is an area that the Scottish Executive (2003), previously known as the Scottish Office, also promotes through its Improving Health in Scotland document. Teenage sexual health is often portrayed in the media, however the majority of attention is negative and it is frequently sensationalised (Coleman and Roker 1998). On a personal level, the author intends that this assignment will increase her knowledge of teenage health, which is an area she has great interest in. The campaign is also related to other modules undertaken by the author, which cover various aspects of adolescent sexual health.
The Crying Game manipulates several binary oppositions. The first one, which is so obvious, is male/female. Of course we all know that by nature people’s identities are determined by genitals. In this way, man should find a sexual interest in women and vice versa. But in film we see the opposite situation, which leads us to another binary opposition – sex/gender.
