I’m gay but I oppose “Gay Rights” as an entity of its own. I think the LGBT community needs to merge their struggles into the rest of civil rights. Now, some of you may be confused as to why I’m arguing against my own rights but I’m not, and I’ll tell you why. We need human rights, not gay rights. We need rights that protect all humans whether they are Asian, gay, blind, autistic, religious or whatever it is that the system wants to discriminate against. By separating ‘Gay Rights” from “Human Rights,” we think that we are the outliers in society, that we’re somehow special. Though as we all know, no one is special. Everyone is human and everyone has advantages and disadvantages. LGBT rights and the battle for them is one small part of an overall push to secure basic rights for everyone. Dividing our culture into these subgroups that feel superior to each other creates a rift, which in turn creates conflict. We’ve already drawn a neat little border by alienating heterosexuality and asexuality from the LGBT community. My problem isn’t with sexuality; my problem is with superiority. No one is entitled to anything more than basic rights. We need love, we need peace and we need understanding. As of now the system we have isn’t working and we have a history of hate filled people controlling things. We need to remove the hate filled control, and replace it with the equality of human love. We need to wipe the slate clean, remove all the infectious bad mindsets we currently have. We need to replace it with an all-new system, supporting love and human potential regardless of division. When we allow ourselves to be divided, we can never unite to a common goal. We need to fight division and unify humanity for a better future. We’re already fighting a battle between the rich and the poor, so a fight between our physical preferences and mental differences is unnecessary. We’ll
