Over the past years many same sex couples have been trying to push the legalization of same sex marriages in all of America. They have had many breakthroughs in states like New York, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The question now is should we legalize same sex marriage throughout the 50 states? Legalization of same sex marriage is important to society because we all want equal rights. Equal rights are something everyone looks for. Everyone says how important it is for society as a whole to be treated equally, but how can we go so far as to say it and not strive for it? The goal of my study is to find out if same sex marriage should be legalized. Same sex marriage is defined as the formal union of a man and a man, or a woman and a woman of any ethnicity at the legal age of 18 or older, by which they become husband and husband or wife and wife.
Same sex couples have been searching for a way to be treated equally. They only want the same rights that heterosexual couples have. As an American, they should be treated equally in every way, including marriage. The belief that it is “wrong” to be a homosexual goes back to religious views. Someone can’t help the way they were born. A lot of people say “They choose to be gay” or “They want to be different”, but that is not the case. No one WANTS to be discriminated against. No one wants to bullied and tortured on a regular basis. No one wants to be looked down upon by society. Same sex couples want to be accepted as human beings, not looked at as outsiders. There should
always be a separation in church and state. Yes, it is important for society to have believes, but everyone doesn’t share the same believes as everyone else.
