Style is essential in distinguishing one’s self and is developed through the repetition of specific actions. These actions can be found in the way one dresses, speaks, interacts, and even in their writing style. An author’s writing style is an utmost reflection of their self. A writer of original thought cannot help but include these traits within their compositions; this is what help distinguishes them as an artist. Such as the works of Edgar Allan Poe darkness of his pieces are in unity with his inner being.
He developed Lenina's gnawing problem to heal slowly but surely as she struggles to conform to the influences of her society, which she has known since "birth." Although these mannerisms and ideas that she has had rooted in her mind have had a significant influence on her development as a person, she was still able to convey who she was meant to be as an individual. This set a mood of rebellion and tones of satisfaction and success at the end of the novel. However, at the beginning of the novel, the set tone is dull and emotionless. To have the novel end with such a bright tone and mood enables the audience to see and feel how Huxley wanted to portray Lenina as a human being and not another robotic entity of a dreary utopian
In all four of John Foulcher’s poems, a common theme of cruelty and brutality exists. He reinforces the theme by utilizing a number of techniques throughout. In Martin and the Hand Grenade, man’s destructive power is highlighted. In both A Crow that came for the Chickens and For the Fire, the cruelty of nature is implied. This is also evident in Harry Wood, in which we see the theme of death and survival.
Since the prison is a place of darkness and sin, the beauty of a wild rose bush growing in such an unexpected place symbolizes God's grace. By starting off with a prison door and beautiful rosebush, Hawthorne is letting us know that the issues punishment versus forgiveness and judgment versus grace are going to be super important. Like I said earlier even though Hester went through many hardships she was able to overcome and bloom just like a rosebush would. The Scarlet Letter is a dark book at the beginning because the setting of the prison makes me think of sadness. When the prison is being described Hawthorne names everything that makes it such a sad place.
And the only key difference I could find was that as I mentioned before, the book is non-fiction while the movie is fiction. When reading the book it has a more serious tone and it is meant to be helpful towards the reader, while the movie Mean Girls is humorous and not very serious at all. While it does have a good moral it is still a completely made up story based only on various chapters and sections of Wiseman’s book. The first and most important similarity I noted was the chapter on cliques. In Mean Girls cliques are a key theme throughout the movie.
The words that are used are unique in a way that it creates this atmosphere that it feels like the story is unraveling right before you. Words combinations such as flaccid waistline, sallow urban complex, swift and passionate, are all helpful to visualize the story. The sentences that are put together help to form a visual in the mind that is incredible. “The land fled past, the rock-stabbed earth, the scrub flattened by wind shriveled by violent sun. Way off in the distance, as ominous as mounting clouds, a line of mountains stood darkly along the horizon”.
Jennings use of foreshadowing helps readers unveil a deep understanding of Robin’s dark thoughts through literary techniques, “My high spirits dissolve like salt in water,” The use of red herrings throughout the novel help represent the use of significant and powerful themes through the use of the thriller conventions. Throughout this novel Paul Jennings use of short stories through the first person narration of Robin, reveals to readers the dark thoughts that continuously surface into Robins mind. Each story reflects upon the problems and obsessions that Robin is experiencing, showing the need to confront the darkness within him, before it completely dominates his mind. "I
stick it in her (in the euphemistic sense). However, Rudolfo’s technique would require Oscar to be aggressive, which is seemingly impossible for him. Oscar’s nerdiness is associated with his interest in genres—science fiction, fantasy and comic books—and the narrator provides a full list of titles and authors that Oscar enjoys. This list provides both a cultural context as well as the beginning of a repeated motif—the comparison between the story of Oscar’s family and Dominican history with the nerdy texts that Oscar reads. Oscar’s enjoyment of these texts goes beyond being a nerd—these genres allow Oscar to escape into a completely different world, one where outsiders are the heroes, as is often the case in comic books.
The sentence structure, the affluent use of diction, the imagery and the personification of the passage allows a vivid connection between the wind and Ellen’s cry. The imagery allows a parallel with the character’s emotion as well, and contributes to the dark atmosphere at the manger. All these add to the mood and aid the reader to connect with Paul’s desperation and emotional
Poe put much effort and thought into the details of his literature, he painted a descriptive picture for the reader matter how dark and dreary. The name “Fortunato” means fortune/fortunate, which is symbolic because it is the complete opposite for the character in this story since his fate has been decided for him, “derivation from the verb fortunate, blessed by the goddess fortuna, or random fate. Naturally, to embrace fortuna was unthinkable in the Reformed traditions. Fate was not random” (87). Montresor is constantly smiling at Fortunato so he will have no suspicion of his bad intentions.
