Gadgets for Teens; Friend or Foe Think of the days when there were no computers and such gadgets. Human life was highly limited due to the absence of technological advancements. Nowadays, whether we like it or not, gadgets had occupied our day to day lives. It helps us improve our way of living. On the other hand, it has also a negative influence especially to the way teenagers manage their personal life. Dr. Jose Rizal once said, “Youth is the hope of our future” but how can these youth be such a hope if, in a larger sense they are driven by modernization and globalization. Gadget is something man has invented having a specific purpose and function but is often thought of, as a novelty. Teenagers now are starting to own a new and developed gadget for their own personal reason. In our generation, teenagers look for a thing that makes them cool and hip in the eyes of their environment. They became an attention seeker to the society they belong, so these gadgets helps them to feel proud of what they are carrying around, thought that they are in on what is new. Examples of these gadgets are portable gaming console, laptop, portable media player and multimedia cell phone. Some of its useful functions are that it can practice the skills of teenager in problem solving, following directions, refine motor and spatial skills. Its portability is an advantage, making it easier to use in any time at any place. These gadgets make teens socially active and keep connected with friends and family even on the move. It is also an efficient educational tool, since browsing the internet provides the students a useful facts and researches resulting to a better academic performance. Moreover, gadgets if being overused can cause serious health problems.
