The Fundamentals of Teamwork Samantha Keith Davenport University Teamwork often plays an important part in both the business and personal aspects in life. All teams face challenges, but the best performing teams share clarity of purpose. Building trust and good communication skills is vital for productivity and goal attainment. When a group of people can work together, despite any difference in opinions, Two Challenges Faced by Teams There are many ways to avoid success; one sure common way is lack of participation. It’s as simple as team members failing to complete assignments, and even poor attendance. If members of the team exchange phone numbers and emails then there can always be a means of contact between members, this is perfect if a team member is unable to attend a group meeting. Making sure everyone is up to date on what is due and when will ensure the timely completion of assignments. Teams can also work on being supportive of one another, not all team mates have had the experience of working collectively on assignments. This extra support will build confidence. Another challenge that teams may come across is lack of structure. Without structure it can be difficult for teams to come to a middle ground because each team member will have their own opinions in any given topic. Brainstorming and finding a common denominator within their ideas is a good method to put into practice. While in high school, during any group project, members would spend the first ten minutes brainstorming and coming up with a plan, this ensured that everything was completed in a timely matter. Importance of Communication Communication is critical, without timely and complete communication, members of the team cannot support each other and do not have a sense of progress.
