Functional Areas of Business
In a well developed business there are clearly defined functional areas of business. These functional areas are marketing, finance, operation, purchasing, and personnel (human resource). Depending on the size and nature of the business, the size of each of these functional areas varies. Each of these functional areas has their share of responsibilities in setting their department’s objectives to meet the goals of the organization. In order to achieve these organizational goals the role of a manager within these functions is critical, because they must understand their department’s objectives to properly plan, organize the structure of work, lead the team and controlling its performance. Marketing is essential to every business. Without marketing or inadequate marketing, no business would be able to compete in today’s external environment limitations and challenges. The role of a manager is to understand the function of the marketing department to plan, organize, lead, and control his or her team to maximize sales for the organization.
The function of marketing would be branding the organization or business, its products or type of services. This is accomplished by setting its best image, quality, and response to the customer’s needs. This will set the organization apart from its competitor and create a reputation.
