From Small Beginnings Come Great Things

I don’t think I ever told you about my high school softball years, did I? Well, the group of girls in this picture all were there from the records of 12-18, to 15-16, to 24-10, and all the way to 30-6. We started in 2009 as a brand new school, there were no seniors and we were smaller than every other school in the area. Our team struggled and clearly as the first couple years of records showed, you could tell we were not doing well. After we finally started to get the right connection junior year you could see the potential coming up. Senior year comes around and this picture is what came of it. Early morning alarms, that sound never sounded so dreading. Being up at five in the morning negative degree weather just to go run in the school’s field house filled with thick, hot air. Hitting weight rooms before classes with the football coaches to give us the best training we could use to get more power into our hitting. Finishing every school day with hitting off the tees just to make sure that right technique was natural for every player. Our team was dedicated, and that was the way it needed to be if we really wanted anything big to come of our season. February came to an end and we saw what new girls would help us in our dream journey, hopefully, down to Peoria. With all 16 girls picked and set for the season, we were more ready than ever and felt confident in the lineup we had. We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy season because of the reputations schools in our schedule had, but we didn’t want easy. At the end of May we went into post-season feeling pretty good. First game, Rich East, easy. We had that one in the bag. We had been scouting Marian Catholic for a few weeks now after finding out that we would possible have to play them in a Regional game. We knew their pitcher and we understood how their fielding defense worked in certain situations. We thought
