Fresh and canned fruits and vegetables Eating is an activity that we as humans do at least two times a day. We live in a world where the variety of canned food is immense, and we are responsible for what we eat. We decide what we are about to eat and how it will affect our bodies. I decided to compare and contrast the differences between eating fresh foods like fruits and vegetables instead of canned fruits and vegetables. I have found that the three main differences between fresh foods and canned foods are flavor, health benefits, and cost. The first most notable difference between these two kinds of foods is their flavor. Fresh foods have great flavor and taste because they keep all their natural conditions. For example, the other day I ate some fresh pineapple; the flavor was so fresh and just looked appealing to the eye. My oldest daughter opened up a can of diced pineapple chunks from Dole and it just lacked the appearance and the flavor. The canned pineapple tasted so much sweeter than the fresh, and that is because of all the added chemicals and flavoring so that the fruit and vegetables can last longer on the store shelves. Canned vegetables are prepared in a factory setting, where they are cooked at high temperatures prior to them being placed in a can, fruits are picked and places in high amounts of sugar to keep them from turning colors, for example, I cut up a honey crisp apple for a snack for my children and right away the fresh apple turned brown, but if I were to use a little lemon juice on the apple slices they wouldn’t turn the brownish colors. Overall, fresh foods have a better taste and flavor. The second difference that I have notices in comparing the canned and fresh fruits and vegetables are the health factor they have on my health.
