Food is any substance, consumed to provide nutritional support for the body. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells in an effort to produce energy, maintain life, and stimulate growth. It is also the need of people in everyday life. Nowadays people consume too much food as compared to twenty-five years ago. This is because of new technologies in their preparation, the cooking techniques, modes of transport supplying our shops, by the media and the government and by trade migration and by the expansion of the multinational businesses such as KFC, McDonalds and etc. These changes in food habits have endangered many people health by obesity, lifestyle and socio-economic problem. One of the many factors that have shaped today's Mauritian culture is the innovation of fast food. From changing Mauritian’s eating habits that impacted their health, to introducing a new workforce, the fast food industry is indeed one of the most innovative factors that have impacted Mauritian culture. When fast food was introduced into Mauritius; the traditional eating habits of people suffered a massive change. Before this introduction, families used to get together to eat home cooked meals. They prepare their own meal every day until they started to resort to fast food more often until the traditional eating habit of eating together as a family was lost. Another factor that impacted the change of people eating habits was the greater number of women entering the workforce. There was less time to prepare home cooked meals therefore house wives who at the time had a job had to resort to fast food. It became a more convenient source of food for these hard working women who worked as long as 12 hours a day and had no
