| 1. Determine how Five Guys’ philosophy sets it apart from other fast-food chains. Five Guys Burger and Fries is a family business that was established as a small hamburger take-out shop in Arlington, Virginia. Five Guys’ philosophy concentrates on food; their goal is to do better hamburgers and French fries than anyone else in that industry, as well as, focusing on a few items and serving them to the best of their ability. The meat for the burgers is eighty percent lean, is always fresh and never frozen. Five Guys use only high quality ingredients such as peanut oil, Idaho potatoes, homemade grilled buns and fresh meat. They use special technique to prepare French fries, which is not frozen. All this factors make their burgers pricy, depending on what the firm has to pay for its ingredients, compare to other’s fast food chains like McDonalds, Burger King and others. For example, McDonalds’ philosophy is based on value and price more then on quality, they are providing fast service and affordable prices. However, McDonalds state their goal is quality, service, cleanliness and price value. Everybody knows that McDonalds’ food is frozen and not daily fresh. Their best advantage is a price and fast service. According to Wendy’s philosophy, it is oriented on quality of the food as well, their competitive advantage is fresh non-frozen meat, made to – order hamburgers. However, Five Guys also offering 250,000 possible ways to order a burger, an extra fries with a regular order and 17 toppings. 2. Analyze the original values for the start-up company and how it remains strong today.
