The Five Functions of Management at Fleming’s Carmen Winfield MGT 330 Instructor Piva September 9, 2013 The company I am currently employed at is called Bloomin’ Brands Inc. Bloomin’ Brands Inc. is a company who owns different dining franchises and/or brands. The brands that they own are different dining concepts and are as follows: Outback Steakhouse, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Carrabba’s Italian Grille, Bonefish Grille, and Roy’s. It all started with Outback Steakhouse as the first concept in 1988 in Tampa, FL; they then branched off with many other brands becoming one of the largest casual dining companies in the World. Bloomin’ Brand Inc. has approximately 91,000 domestic team members, more than 1,400 restaurants throughout 48 states, Puerto Rico, Guam, and 20 countries. I work as a host trainer for one of the concepts that Bloomin’ Brands owns which is Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. I have been with the company for close to 4 years now. In this paper, I will discuss how the five functions of management are implemented within this company and discuss specific examples of how each of them is implemented. I discuss how Bloomin’ Brands Inc. and Fleming’s management work together in making decisions for the better of the company and each restaurant. This paper will display how Fleming’s and Bloomin’ Brands use management practices learned throughout this course, and how my position there is a branch off of management. The first of the five functions of management that I will discuss is planning. There are many ways that Bloomin’ Brands corporate officers and Fleming’s management team use planning as an organizational tool to reach goals.
