Feeling that she needed to socialise, Cady’s parents enrolled her to North Shore High school. On her first day of North Shore High school, Cady was often left out and she was unfamiliarised with the school’s surroundings and people. On the second day, Cady had become friends with two social outcasts, Janis Ian and Damian. Janis and Damian had misled Cady into thinking that they were taking to G14 for her Health Education class but instead, they brought her to the back of the school where they skipped class. This is where Janis had stated that they were friends and Cady stayed with them.
‘I’m your mother. In which her daughter replied ‘if you want to be treated like a mother, you should act like one. “ it is evident that the way things are conducted in the family is known to be wrong by the children as she points out to her mother that her actions and behaviour do not depict that of a mother, this shows both maturity and understanding, and again the will to rise above her current situation. "But on that first day of school, Mom refused to get out of bed. Lori, Brian, and I pulled back the covers and tried to drag her out, but she wouldn't budge."
I would wake up to the smell off bacon and pancakes and kittens playing with my hair. It was good to be home. When the school let me visit, my grandma dropped me off. My friends were happy to see me, as well as my old teaches. I shared lunch with my friends, where we all laughed and talked.
The very first high school that I attended was Christ The King which was a catholic school, and because I was the new kid I really didn’t know anyone. So I tried to get to know some people, but because I'm shy that didn't work out for me so I just stayed talking to the one person that I knew. The environment in that school was so different as far as school work and the school district went; their rules were really strict the girls couldn't wear more than two colors on their nails, or in their hair and if so we would get a detention. We also would get a detention if we were caught with our phones or if we were chewing gum; I received plenty of detentions for my nails, chewing gum, and my phone. They had us work once a week on certain days in different places; I’ve worked in a health clinic and MB financial bank.
I promised myself I was not going back to school and I told my mother but she insisted I’d go and I had no choice. So instead I would act out and not go to class and stay in the bathroom. I stopped completing my work and began to make myself sick just so I could go home early every day. Ms. Cameel told my mother if I did not start completing my work I would not be promoted to the third grade. I was upset but I had to get away from Ranasha amd the rest of my classmates.
She started to get frightened more often even for her, that was hard because she was living alone at that point this made us very worried about her. Then one day she asked her son Charles if she could move in with him
Connie’s Escape Connie is fifteen and is always worried about how her appearance looks. Her mother don't like the fact she spends more time looking her self herself in the mirror then being neat and responsible like June, her older sister. Connie seems to ignores her mother’s criticisms most of the time. In order to escape her reality she opens the screen door to get away for from her family and be in some kind of fantasy. I think there were other reasons also, but the story points to this one in many places.
I was surprised at how aggravated I was when I was reading because Hal ad Claire didn’t believe her. Catherine kept this big secret from everyone and when she finally decides to open up and tell them they don’t believe her. I can relate to her and I can understand why she would be so hurt and storm off. I have personally been in many situations like this because all my life people have underestimated me. At one point in time in my life one of my teachers told me that I would never graduate or attend college and that I would most likely be knocked up before my junior year.
As a new mother you want to do everything right, she followed the advise of books. Emily was 8 months old when her father left and her mother found work, so she was watch by the lady down stairs. The mother wasn't happy about leaving Emily with anyone. “I would start running as soon as I got off the streetcar, running up the stairs, the place smelling sour, and awake or asleep to startle awake, when she saw me she would break into clogged weeping that could not be comforted, a weeping I can hear yet. (291) Mother was working days at her job and decided to start on night so that she could spend the day with Emily.
I did not understand how different my family was until I started attending school. My parents separated when I was very young, almost too young to remember, so my older sisters were left to raise me and do everything parents are supposed to do. It was very clear that not everyone was being raised by their sisters. It was embarrassing to have parents get a divorce especially because it went against the Catholic religion. In school my friend’s parents came together to parent conferences.
