My First White Christmas Back in December 2010, my most memorable meal happened. Ever since I was young, Christmas is my favorite occasion to celebrate. In the Philippines (where I came from) however, the four seasons aren't recognized there. We only have summer or dry season and rainy or wet season. Because I was immune living into country without a winter season, I find it amazing to celebrate White Christmas in the United States. I can still remember what happened two years ago… How can you not love White Christmas? The cool breeze outside your house that will touch your skin, drinking hot chocolate in front of the fireplace while cheering your basketball team on the television, the jolly Christmas songs you always hear, the grassy smell of the Christmas tree, the colorful decorations, the excitement of opening your presents, the mouth-watering cookies, the nourishing foods on the table and of course, the love and care that you share for each other. In a typical American tradition, the Christmas dish you would often see in this special occasion is fried chicken, green salad, macaroni and cheese, turkey, etc., is always present at the table. But in our culture, we serve uncommon dishes that us, Filipinos, love to eat. My family invited our other relatives and close friends to eat dinner with us. That day, my mom cooked my favorite Filipino dish, “Adobo”, a chicken or pork meat that is cooked with soy sauce and seasonings, “Pancit”, a pan-fried noodles with vegetables which is a tradition to serve on a special day because it symbolizes “long live” in our culture, “Lumpia”, a Filipino version of egg rolls and “Papaitan”, the most disgusting food you will ever eat. It is a soup dish mostly consists of cow or goat innards and the bile as its soup. One needs to develop and acquire the taste to enjoy it. Once you did, you will surely appreciate its taste without
