Federal Prison Comparison CJA 234 August 15, 2011 Federal Prison Comparison This paper will compare, contrast, and describe the prisons to which the following individuals were all convicted of federal crimes and sent to serve the sentences at a federal prison. Martha Stewart, Ivan Boesky, Michael Millken, Manuel Noriega, Timothy McVeigh, Terry Nichols, Al Capone, and John Gotti. Martha Stewart was convicted and charged in 2004 for her role in the well time stock sale. The charges included conspiracy to obstruct justice, lying and giving false statements to investigators. She was imprisoned on October, 2004 at The Federal Prison Camp in Alderson, West Virginia, which is a minimum security facility. The prison is a minimum security facility which houses female inmates. The sleeping quarters are dorm like, the staff-to-inmate is relatively low, and there are limited or no fences around the perimeters. These types of facilities are for offenders of nonviolent crimes or individuals that have good behavior in higher jails earn the privilege of being sent to a prison camp. There is a lot more freedom at a minimum security prison camp. Such facility became Martha Stewart’s residence for the duration of those five months. Stewart was released from Federal Prison Camp in Alderson West Virginia March 2005, but was placed in a supervised sentence of two years. For five months she was placed in house arrest and wore an electronic monitor on her ankle, which kept track of her every move. Even though Stewart was released from the prison camp she was still technically in Federal custody with a probation officer to whom she reported. Ivan Boesky was involved in the Wall Street trading scandal in the 1980s. Once charged Boesky accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced to three and a half years at Lompoc Federal Prison Camp located in Central California. However he was
