2. DATE OF DOCUMENT: The Great Depression and Hoover’s failing administration prompted a need for new leadership, in order to get public support this document had to be written. Roosevelt took office on March 4, 1933 and short after on that same day delivered his Inaugural address.
3. AUTHOR(S) OF THE DOCUMENT: Prior to the Inaugural speech, the Democratic Party had unveiled a plan for economic recovery in its platform. They called their platform a “contract” and needed the public’s support to set fourth a series of provisions, most of which would increase the power of the federal government exponentially. The Inaugural address included the federal government’s need for strong public support in order to expand its power; with that said, the document was clearly written by the Democratic Party along with FDR.
4. POSITION OR TITLE OF THE AUTHOR: If I were to single out one significant author of the document, it would have to be Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Roosevelt was born into wealth and privilege and attended Groton Academy and Harvard University. He was tall, handsome, charming, and quickly moved up the political ladder. He was nominated for vice president in 1920, and was later stricken with polio, but his wife Eleanor kept his political career alive, and led him to become one of the greatest presidents of all time.
5. WHO WAS/ WERE THE AUDIENCES FOR THIS DOCUMENT: The audience for this document were clearly the American public, and the rest of the world, for America’s depression had international dimensions as well.
