Favorite Time of Year

My favorite season of the year is winter. There are several reasons why winter is the preferred season. First of all, I live in the southern portion of the country – Texas. Although we do get a brief encounter of each season, summer is the longest. Winter is that time where we get a chance to escape the extreme heat and enjoy several significant activities. These activities include Christmastime with the family, the New Year and hunting. Winter encourages families to stay indoors due to the cold weather conditions. This increases the focus on quality time together. Winter is filled with good smells and good memories. I love smelling fireplaces in the cold winter air. I also love the smell of home cooked meals. This is the time of year, Mom makes chili, stews, apple cider and baked goods. This leads me to Christmastime and New Year. These are also great family times. Not only does my immediate family spend time together, but so does the extended family. I look forward to seeing all the aunts, cousins and uncles each year. There is something about these holidays that brings out the best in people. I have fond memories of good fellowship and love during these winter times. Lastly, hunting is a fantastic winter sport. Although it is cold, there is plenty of appropriate clothing to wear to combat the weather. During the winter is when the whitetail deer and elk come alive. It is a thrill to see how nature works. What seems like the time to stay indoors for humans, is the best time for wildlife. You actually see more movement and get to be a part of nature’s cycle.
