Damon G. Brown 12/11/2012 Argumentative Essay Fathers and Child Support Many people believe that the men should pay child support, no questions asked. Don’t get me wrong, yes men should support their children, but there should be stipulations on the whole subject. Also both parties and their life styles should be taken into consideration also. In this essay I will argue that child support is necessary, but there needs to be different guidelines. The system needs to look more in depth to both parties before making a decision.
Slimsilver03 Tally’s Corner short report 11-16-2009 The primary determining factor in father child relationships according to Liebow is the amount of acceptance from the child to the father. It says that in his words “The man who lives with his wife and children are under legal and social constrains to provide for them, to be a husband to his wife and a father to his children. The chances are, however, that he is failing to provide for them, and failure in this primary function contaminates his performance as father in other respects as well. The more demonstrative and accepting he is of his children.” It is interesting that the fathers push step children away some what in the book. The men on Tally’s corner do not feel a connection with step children for the fact that they aren’t sharing each others blood.
Receiving a vaccine trains your body to fight off a disease. Similarly, training America’s youth to handle difficult situations can prevent future problematic situations. The second part of Benjamin Franklin’s quote says, “Wise and good men are in my opinion, the strength of the state; more so than riches or arms.” This quote references the quality of men that are in a country, and how a single man can make a greater difference than any amount of riches or arms. Riches and arms are only temporary things, but a good man has a more lasting impact. One of the greatest examples of a “good man” is Martin Luther King Jr. which is a name recognized throughout the world.
“Words give us symbolic vehicles to communicate our creations and discoveries to others”. When Sonny told his father that he adopted a kid, the specific words he used had a strong influence on the dad’s reaction. Beebe, Beebe, and Ivy also noted that “when you label something good or bad you use language to create your own vision of how you experience the world”. In this particular scene, Sonny was stuttering a lot and his words symbolized his confusion of the current situation. Beebe, Beebe, & Ivy (2012) noted that “words and actions are tools we use to let someone know whether we support them or not”(p.76) Jack Gibbs has researched supportive and defensive communication for a couple years now and he defines defensive communication as “a language that creates a climate of hostility and mistrust”(p. 76-77) In the scene the father uses crude language and even goes to the extent of saying that “the kid would be better off living in a dumpster than with Sonny” (Adam Sandler).
The correlation between relationships and an individual’s sense of belonging can be clearly seen in the loving relationship between Romulus and his son Raimond. Both truly belong to each other through the unconditional bond of love between parent and child. The relationship also gives belonging to both through Raimond giving his father the strength to overcome constant tragedy as shown by the quotes “My son is everything to me." and “never say I don’t love you” and with Romulus doing everything in his power for his son to have a better life “he denied himself so I would have more”. The technique of anecdotes is used throughout the book to show how strong their love and sense of belonging to each other is such as how Raimond always feels safe and loved when riding with his father on their bike “Most of all, I remember his strong, bare, sun-darkened arms on either side of me as I sat on the petrol tank.” These anecdotes also allow the responder to connect more personally with the characters and their history and more fully understand their relationship.
In society we are given several ideas of what fathers should be like. A Blow A Kiss by Tim Winton, represents two contradictory ideas of fathers. Fathers who are kind and loving towards their sons are seen as a positive representation of fathers, whereas ones who are nasty and abusive towards their sons are seen as a negative representation of fathers. We are encouraged to hold this opinion through the point of view of a child named Albie and our own ideas of how a father should be presented. In the text, some fathers are represented as loving and caring towards their sons, encouraging us to believe that they are better fathers.
Should Fathers get Paternity Leave? “Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.” This famous quote by the American baseball player Wade Boggs, shows what an important role a father plays in his child’s life. Due to this essential role a dad has to play in his child’s life, many believe that fathers should get paternity leave in order to give fathers time to bond with their child. However paternity leave is one of the most controversial topics of all times. The meaning of Paternity leave is a leave of absence from work for a period of time in order to take care of a new born baby.
A childs largest support system stems from their imediate environment and their family. His first views of himself will be how I view him and I will never let him think he is not good enough. In my eyes he was born good enough and will only become better. As much as he is punished when he has done wrong, he will more so be praised for when he does right. I know the more focus I place on his assets rather than liabilities the more they will nurture and grow.
Men have just as much right; they need to spend quality time bonding with and caring for their family. The early days of a baby’s life should be for spending time with both parents. Fathers want to spend time with their newborn baby just as much as mothers do. It is good for the father to be able to have a bond with their baby as well. Statistics has proven that men that are in their child’s life at birth and a few weeks after have a stronger bond with their children, making them better fathers, and giving the children a better environment to grow up in.
Unit 1: Father and Infant It is said that a father cannot provide the same quality of care that a mother can offer to their infants. For example, a father can’t provide the sensitivity of a mother or be able to comfort the baby like a mother would. A father can’t provide the same attachment that a mother can. But In my opinion I feel like this is incorrect because a father can be everything a mother can be. Many infants can get attached to their main caregiver.
