21 Aug. 2006. 2 June 2009 This source discusses the anger of beauty pageants. Beauty pageants promote the sexualization of young girls and provide to those involved in pedophilia. Parents are the ones who are at fault for exposing and subjecting their daughters to the sexual use of beauty pageantry. I’m going to use this info to prove that Beauty pageants aren’t just for fun and games, that there child could be in danger .
In the poem, the speaker states the girlchild has “wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy” (4), showing that she already wants to alter her appearance. As children grow into young adults, they become aware of outside judgments; as the girlchild was made aware in the poem. “Then in the magic of puberty, a classmate said:/ You have a great big nose and fat legs” (5-6). Girls are pressured into looking the way media portrays beauty. Unfortunately, outward appearances take on a more important role than other characteristics to teenage girls.

The Disney Princess Effect,” explains why she thinks young girls are being sexualized at a very young age and how others can help girls see the problem. To make her argument more effective, she talks about a woman named Mary Finucane and her person experience with her daughter.
Now that’s growing up without a childhood. Jane Smiley seems like a great parent who cares about her children but to allow her daughters to put on makeup even entering their teenage years just isn’t right. Her girls where prematurely growing up, where behaving beyond their age, and with their only priority being beautiful at all times it seem to help them in the long run. As they burned off the “Barbie stage” and grew into more important things down their lives. Like for example Smiley talks about her older daughter, “Now she is planning to graduate school and law school and become an expert on woman’s health issues, perhaps adolescent health issues like anorexia and bulimia” (377).
Madelyn Jane is a 10 year old model with a sultry stare beyond her years and she had the fashion industry drooling after posing for French Vogue. She wears make-up, high heels and looks a far cry from a typical 10-year-old. Even with her childish smocks and cotton tees, her facial and body expressions are very adult. This is the product of living half her young life in the fashion world since her runway debut at the age of five. Some say Madelyn’s grown-up beauty is giving other young girls unhealthy ideas about how they should look and these people sure know what’s good and bad.
It is applied to both genders however it is much more dominantly evident against females. As a girl, Scout is expected to be interested in “clothes and boys” and her interests are to be restricted. “We decided that it would be best for you to have some feminine influence , it won’t be many years Jean Louise, before you become interested in clothes and boys” (Lee, 127). Aunt Alexandra tells Scout that she needs to mould herself into a lady. She is to turn her attention to lady-like hobbies.
It is not much you can do to make someone accept who they are, that choice is left up to the individual. Many young women in different cultures go through life trying to fit into what America calls the norm, young teens just need to find their niche and perfected it. Every woman’s time is different when they finally stop caring what people think. Ladies, you just have to learn to love you. When girls take all the negative and positive aspects of their life and mush it all together it makes the person they are today.
Female circumcision for women is a way of purifying them of their masculinity. Second, female circumcision is done to denote women power. Many social conditions, which require female circumcision, are the alienation of women, particularly from power. Women are controlled in community, family, emotionally, and even sexual matters. Sex and Young Girls In Kilbourne’s “Two Ways A Woman Can Get Hurt” she speaks extensively about how advertising could have many underlying and shocking meanings when analyzed closer. Some factors that Kilbourne speaks of in her essay allow us to look deeper into the hidden concepts of advertising and show a world of suggestive sex and abuse. Many of the ads allowed us take a closer look at how woman are portrayed as objects to sell a product. I believe that many of underlying factors influence our young girls. Many of the ads today give an image that in order to be happy and satisfied in life you have to be sexual or look sexy to get ahead.
I know how we always want the next new makeup or hair product that’s going to make s look like the model in the commercial. Women can’t just run to the store in sweat pants because they value their appurtenance too much. Women don’t feel as confident when they don’t look nice, but men don’t really care either way. In the reading, “Do thin Models Warp Girls Body Image?” I agree with Nancy when she says thin models on the runway or on TV can cause very young girls to become anorexic or bulimic. Nancy says, “Girls are being bombarded with the message that they need to be super-skinny to be sexy.” (Hellmich 706) I believe that is very true when she says that but what young girls don’t realize is that you could be beautiful and sexy with any body type that you might have.
