The University of La Verne’s core values have been present in my life throughout the years. Even though my mother wanted to attend college as I did, she didn’t have the option to so and that’s why she encourages me to try my hardest in school. When my mother was young, she dreamed of attending college in the United States and getting a job so she could support her family, whereas when I was small, I didn’t think school was important. Although my mother only attended elementary school, school was one of her top priorities because she felt like it was an honor to go to school, and if you went to school, you were considered to be lucky. My mother was an over-achiever and saw education as a way of showing that she was better than most.
My son Kaleb was born May 24 2008, and from that moment on I wanted to give him everything he deserves. I tried to go back to college right after my son was born, but I had no idea what I wanted to do for my future and taking care of Kaleb wasn't cheap. I was constantly working to pay for the expenses of Kaleb, while paying for the rest of the expenses I had. Finally four years later, I made the best decision I could for my family and that was going back to school. One of the many reasons why I came back was that I did not was to continue being in a factory the rest of my life.
When I was a kid I used to live with my mother and my grandparents, I grew up without knowing my father, but I was happy because my grandparents always bought me everything I wanted, at that time I was the only child at home. Later my Mom got married, and I had two brothers. I learned how to share my toys with them, and I got a stepfather who taught me many good things because he is a good and hard working man. My Mom is lucky. Before I finished the high school, I started to work for a big tools company as a salesman helper (where I learned many new things).

My father was a self-employed insurance agent and my mother a secretary for Sylvania. My values, morals, and ethics were shaped by my parents’ examples. They were strict parents by today’s standards, but I believe that is what shaped me into the individual I am today. They expected me to do my best in school, and I had chores to do on a weekly basis.
Carla Wright My Return to School English Composition 1 Denya Cuiffo October 14, 2013 When we attend college as adults, we have expectations of what college will be or will not be. I decided to go back to school for quite a few reasons. The main factors for my returning to school includes my family and stability also plays big role in my returning to school. My reasons for going back to school is to gain communication skills, become a good role model for my children, if I decide to have any, gain independence and seek profitable employment that would be profitable for me. My father has always been my support system in my return to school.
Bernie started Law School but quit to start his own investment firm. He used money he had earned at a summer job and side job to get his business started. The name of the business was Bernie L. Madoff Investment Securities, LLC. His father in law was a retired C.P.A. and he helped Bernie get started.
Back then it didn’t matter whether you went to school or not because most parents needed their kids’ help with extra work on the field, but now it matters. An education is something that is guaranteed to all American citizens and if you don’t go to school, someone will come to your house to find out why you haven’t been attending. In the 1940’s you were required to learn how to read, write, know some math, and geography. In 2013 you have to learn all these different things that can somewhat prepare you for any career. We have to learn about finance, economics, algebra, biology, and more.
Descending from difficult households, both my parents moved from Mexico to the United States in hopes to build better lives for my brother and I. Living alone in a foreign country has never been easy, however. My parents have built our lives from scratch with no outside family support. When I was young, my dad was always switching from menial job to menial job in hopes of find something better. My mom always helped out as best she could, at times selling coke and candy to neighbors, but her primary concern was always taking care of her children.
My father was left with 4 children to take care of all by him, I had to realize that he didn’t have help anymore that he had to be the mother and father of the house and the things I was doing was just adding on to the stress from my mother passing away. So then I asked myself the most life changing questions that I have ever asked myself what would my mother want?, what do I really want out of life? This caused me to go to school do all my work and even start communicating with my family and friends again. Then I realized that I really enjoy learning new things and advancing intellectually. I can say that my worst fear is being a failure Being a grown man wishing I finished high school or college, stressed out trying to figure how I’m about to pay my rent for next month and not being able to provide and help my family when they really need it.
When I was first asked this question, it intrigued me. I have always loved learning about everything and reading, so seeing people who have taken years off from school fathoms me. Because I love learning, I have always wanted to obtain my degree for personal development as well as having a higher education underneath my belt. I come from a low-income family, so they could not afford to send me to college when I graduated from high school. Besides my father, who passed away when I was young, if I complete my degree I would be the only one in my family to have a college degree.
