Falling Towers “She had seen something, she felt something,” Mr. Massari said, “I kept saying, ‘Not now, not my wife, not just when we heard this news about the baby.’” When we think of Greek Mythology, we imagine Gods and Goddesses like Zeus and Hera, great heroes like Hercules and Theseus, and stories of the Underworld and Mount Olympus. Not many automatically imagine the story of the two lovers, Ceyx and Alcyone (Halcyon). When studying, James Glanz’s, The Haunting Final Word: “It doesn’t look good, babe”, the story of Ceyx and Alcyone is woven into the narration to make a parallel between the tragedy of the lover’s loss and the September 11 terrorist attacks. I personally feel as though the author, James Glanz, was head on in adding a comparison to this particular mythological tale. The Story of Ceyx and Alcyone is one of beauty and tragedy. Ceyx was the king in Thessaly and son of Lucifer, and Ceyx’s wife, Alcyone was the daughter of Aeolus, the King of the Winds. The two loved each other devotedly and were seldom apart. Nevertheless, a time came when Ceyx decided he needed to leave his wife and make a long journey across the sea. Alcyone hysterically sobbed and stressed to her husband to not leave, out of fear that her beloved would never return. Unfortunately for Alcyone, men are prideful creatures, so Ceyx, though deeply moved, felt that he must fulfill his purpose and do so without her. She had to yield despite her strong feelings and bade him farewell as if she foresaw what was to come. A storm took hold of Ceyx’s ship, and the waters closed over him. The last thing on Ceyx’s lips before his parish was the name of his beloved wife, and sadly for the couple, cell phones did not exist during this time period. Alcyone naïvely prayed that her husband would return home soon, and Juno, touched by her prayers sent her messenger Iris to the house of Somus,
