It would be unfair for teachers to use cell phones most of the time because not all students have that ability. There are ways to go around this issue. There are always going to be opposing sides to this argument. Personally I feel that there are solutions available for teachers who dislike cell phone use in class. For example for people who don't have cell phones can partner up with someone who does have one, or there can be school administered tablets each teacher has just in case.
Also in most cases the students forget to turn off the volume to their cell phones which will then interrupt the class or test. The kids see it as fun chatting with their friends while they are in another class, but they don’t see all the important notes being missed. If the teacher is assigning homework or informing the class about an upcoming test the student will not hear, which will then lead to failure! Year after year more and more students get cell phones convincing their parents that it will come in handy in case of an emergency. But if anything urgent were to happen at school the student can go to the office and make a phone call there.
Also,cell phones–especially smart phones -are a fabulous learning resource. Students can use tools such as the calculator, the map finder, and the calendar. I’ve used my cell phone in Math and Geography and to keep track of my homework. Teachers do not get mad about cell phones in class because they are mean, or don’t want students to socialize, but they do it for students benefit. They are trying to prepare students for the future and the lives we will go on to live after high school. If we don’t learn what we are supposed to during our high school years we will not be prepared for the advanced knowledge college or university offers us. After high school no one is going to tell us we aren’t allowed to use phones in class, but it is out loss if we don’t learn what we are supposed to. Teachers are only trying to prepare us for the real world.
Journal. Even though schools allow cell phones on grounds they aren’t allowed in the classroom. Some schools are concerned that this will result in cheating and cyber-bulling. Some great advantages of cell phone usage in schools are for learning purposes. If schools don’t have enough calculators or computers, students can use their cell phones as a tool to go on an educational website.
I conducted an interview with my fiancée, Melissa Insley, on this issue and she happens to feel the same as myself. Cell phones should be allowed in class but they should be on silent unless the person has children or another important reason where someone may need to get a hold of them (Insley). A lot of people, me included, have ADD or other learning disabilities that make it hard for them to pay attention in class and the littlest bit of distraction makes them lose focus completely, and it is very important that they get the most out of the education that they are paying for (Insley). Even on vibrate it can cause a disruption to some people and that’s simply not fair to those who are really intent on learning the information. If someone really needs to use their phone for whatever reason that they can go out in the hallway outside of the classroom even for texting.
What Age Do You Give Your Child a Cell Phone? Giving a child a cell phone has great implications that parent’s don’t often realize. Delaying giving a cell phone for as long as you can is good path to follow and waiting until the child is at least in middle school is an even a better choice. There is the obvious consideration of cost, which really doesn’t require further discussion. More importantly, parents should consider three main factors: cell phones aren’t toys, they are a distraction, and they must be used properly.
Instead of having to use multiple different devices, you could your cell phone for all your schooling needs. Many teachers aren't aware of all the abilities they could be utilizing from cell phones and I believe it would make teaching a lot easier. Many jobs today have something to do with technology. With every new invention of technology a new job is created and a new subject is in need of being learned. If you deny students the use of cellphones you could possibly be keeping them from learning a dire skill for their future jobs.
Everywhere you look you see children texting on their cell phones. Abbreviations and shorthand language are the ways the vast majority of teenagers communicate with family and friends. There are some who would say texting leads to a decline in language and grammar skills. Others believe texting can improve a child’s grammar, reading, and writing skills.
