Everyday, consumers make decisions about the goods and services they purchase. They are several factors that affect these decisions. Some of these are price, choice, needs such as food and clothing, and also the level of their income. Apart from these, there are other factors that affect consumer spending. One such factor is marketing and advertising of the good or service. Retailers and manufacturers use a certain marketing strategy to make a consumer behave in a certain way. These strategies may have a negative or positive effect on the individual. People are exposed everyday with a variety of advertisements. Advertising outlines the benefits of the good/service and is also very persuasive. It is also very informative and gives recommendations for the product. This is done to convince the consumer to purchase a particular product because it will bring some kind of satisfaction in their life. Marketers spend a huge amount of money to collect data and decide what strategy they will use in order to sell their product. Another factor that influences consumer spending is the quality of the product and the reputation of the service provider. A consumer will look at the quality of the product. The quality of the good must match the quality the consumer is looking for. It must be of very good quality in order to make the product have a long life span. One such example is an air conditioner; a consumer will buy an air conditioner that has very good quality so that it can stay longer. If he/she buys of a very poor quality, chances are that it will not work for a long period of time. The reputation of the provider is equally important as well. If the person knows that the company has a record of selling faulty products, he/she can save himself from getting deceived.
