In fact, I believe it has given us a more effective way of communicating and engaging with one another especially in our fast-paced society. If I am on a work assignment one of my favorite tools to research is twitter. I find it to be a quick news feed and I usually learn about news first from there before learning it from the mainstream media such as television or radio. And of course facebook has been the staple for me as for many in helping us remain engaged and to keep abreast of graduations, weddings, births or other special events regarding our family and friends. Social media continues to make strides to make communication more accessible and easier for all of us.
I strongly believe an individual can strengthen their community just as fast as the world is turning. Three ways an individual might strengthen their community is by using social media to reach out to people, Volunteer, and start a program to keep the local community kids off the streets after school is dismissed. As technology is constantly changing so is the internet and how our world shares information. We have social networking programs such as Facebook, twitter and instagram to share information. On facebook and instagram you can add pictures and information with other people across the globe.
One key issue is the ease of finding people on these sites, on Facebook it is so much easier to locate someone you are looking for. Facbook also has more ways to share pictures and videos among friends. A key issue for Twitter is there is a maximum length of 140 characters that can be shared on one “Tweet”. Although these sites are both used for social media networking they are both utilized for different reasons. Twitter is known to be more a message board, and Facebook is full service information website among friends.
Because of this, there has been a massive effect on the amount of socialising between friends and family; using technology in online social messaging websites such as Bebo, MSN, Facebook and many more. Through these social messaging websites, more and more people can interact with their friends and family all over the world. An expert professor David Crystal has supported the idea of web-based messages and disagrees with the view that slang and contractions leads to a lower English standard of language. In Josh Roses’: How social media is having a positive impact on our culture, in Current Issues Page.612. Josh states, “I recently asked the question to my face book friends: “Twitter, Face book, Foursquare … is all of this making you feel closer to the people or farther away?” There would be a lot different responses because some people might agree and say that it does bring me closer to people and other might say no, it keeps us farther away from people of our age. I see people intertwining with the use of social media in and out on a daily basis to keep up with life. The use of social media technology is also being used in the education world and is becoming increasingly more normal in classrooms all across our country. There are handful of benefits behind the use of social media in an educational system.
Social media also let us keep in touch with family members and friends that live far away; we can stay connected by sharing pictures and videos, even if they live across the country or even around the world. It could also boost confidence when having positive feedback from friends. On the other hand, social networking can have a serious threat on children and young teen’s health and social development.
