Mlekani Wendie Gondwe QCF Level 2 Unit SHC 023 1.1 Explain what is meant by Diversity - Diversity means state of being varied. It pertains to the differences in culture, religion, disability, beliefs and attitudes of each individual in any group of people. All aspects of life respect differences and acceptance of human diversity. E.g. In schools you would find welcome signs in different language incorporating all languages that are inclusive in that particular school. Equality – Equality means that all people have the same rights and status regardless of our colour, sex orientation or race. The previous Acts were Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and 2005, Human Rights Act 1998, Race Relations Act 1976, Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006, Equality Act 2006 and the Children Act 1989 and 2004. The Act protects all individuals and groups from discrimination. At my workplace there is Equality and Diversity policy and procedures displayed in the staff room. These are for all staff to read and sign to show that they understand them. 2.2 How would you challenge discrimination that you may witness in your workplace? It is the responsibility of a care worker to challenge any discrimination that they may witness in a workplace. This can be done by reporting it to management but also telling the person involved what the policy on discrimination is about. It would be a good idea for the person to undergo some training on discrimination if they lack that knowledge but it would also be important to give reassurance to the service user that everything is being dealt with professionally. 3.1 Describe when you feel that you may need additional information, advice and support about diversity, equality and inclusion, give an
