Experience in Learning English

These days I feel that learning a new language is a long term. I have studied English for almost 6 years and this learning experience has made me have my own opinion on how to learn and teach a foreign language. Such as how to understand a language and how to contact the language with the country’s culture. As a language, English is the same as other languages. A language has its own characteristics, so we need understand this language’s system, including its pronunciation, spelling, grammar, and understanding the cultural background. Of course the most basic and most important to learn a language is to know how to use it in our daily life. For my own experience, when I was 13 years old, I started learning English in China. At that time, I just studied English for getting a high mark in the exam. Teachers always focus on teaching students the English skills that can help students pass the exam, instead of using it in the daily life. Although I learned some English skills, not only I do not know how to communicate with people, but also I had no chance. Things changed when I was 15 years old, I went to the Unite States and lived with an American family. It is the first time I used English, which I learned from my teacher, in real life. This experience influences me a lot, which lets me know more about the language and makes me realize how important to learn a language by using it in our daily life.
