Mike Fish English 730 Research paper 11/17/09 Section 1: Is there a designer behind our growth as a world, are we simply our own artist, or could these two ideas be woven together? Intelligent Design and Evolution are two of today’s greatest scientific theories that try to explain exactly where we came from and how we came to be what we are. There’s a lot of confusion surrounding both theories and how they can possibly be two parts to the same theory. Many religions either support evolution as a tool used by a designer to create what the intelligent world has become today. In short Intelligent Design’s theory says there is a designer behind everything that occurs on our planet. All that occurs in nature has a design to it and does not happen by random. This idea is contrary to Evolution where they say that everything occurs at random and does not have a purpose. It states that nature occurs by random acts of natural selection or in simpler terms survival of the fittest. Section 2: From caveman to modern man. How did we come to be the chemistry puzzle box we are? “Neo-Darwinism postulates that natural selection acts on the heritable (genetic) variations within individuals in populations and that mutations (especially random copying errors in DNA) provide the main source of these genetic variations. Because positive mutations seem to be rare, Neo-Darwinism contends that evolution will be a slow, gradual process.”(ISCID - International Society for Complexity Information and Design. Web. 03 Dec. 2009. <http://www.iscid.org>.) Intelligent design argues that things are the way they are because that is God’s will. “"Why is the sky blue?" I offer two answers: 1) The sky is blue because of the wavelength dependence of Rayleigh scattering; 2) the sky is blue because blue is the color God wants it to be. Before we understood Rayleigh scattering, there was no
