The Evolution of Painting
Introduction
In this essay, some major historical change of painting will be discussed and explained by the Theory of Evolution. Painting is an art form that is completed mainly by the use of pigments, colours on a surface. Painting has a very long history. For example, many cave paintings have been found in many parts of the world; some of these paintings have been painted about 32000 years before1. Initially painting, and other art forms, was used to record important events. Comparing this to the present, at which painting is mainly for express oneself, the purpose of painting has changed a lot. Such alternation can be traced back to its path of development and this can interestingly explained by the Theory of Evolution. So this essay will first look into the history of painting. Due to a wide variety of kinds of painting, this essay will mainly focus on some movements of the western paintings in some periods. At the last part, this essay will use the Theory of Evolution to analyze the reasons for the changes in the painting history.

History of paintings
The first kind of painting that is found is the cave painting. The details of these paintings show they have to be drawn by human. The subject of cave paintings is mainly animals, which may represent the prehistoric human believed by capturing the gestures of the animal, they might be able to hunt them more easily. Some other paintings are believed for practical use1, and those might be the way for the prehistoric human to communicate to each other before the invention of language. At that time, the figures have not yet shown the sense of 3-D, but they do have some overlapping of figures to show the sense of space1.

After the invention of language, the use of paintings starts to transform from ritual and practical use to recording important events such as wars.
