She also states that society would disappear without children, which seems so common sense that according to Roberts, in his essay How to Say Nothing in Five Hundred Words, would probably have considered padding. Kemp then states, "These people are making a fundamental mistake about society itself" which would be considered by philosophers a synthetic statement – not enough evidence to support her claim – she is not a credible source for
AP European History DBQ 2008 Form B On November 24, 1793, the National Convention replaced the Gregorian calendar with a new revolutionary calendar. In response to the new calendar, in the period 1789 to 1806, several different reactions evolved. Based on the documents provided, when looked at upon an intellectual basis, the calendar seemed perfect; where some found the new calendar to work well, others proclaimed it inconvenience; and through overthrowing Christianity in the calendar and everyday life, problems began to arise. The documents can be divided into three main groups. The first group of documents shows the intellectual thought behind the creation of the revolutionary calendar and the reasons for its adoption.
Faced with an immensely difficult task of resisting an attack from a vicious enemy with an upstanding army greater than all other signatories combined (“History of the Atlantic Alliance” 1), it quickly became clear that mutual cooperation was needed to achieve their common goal. This alliance was formalized with the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on United States soil in Washington on April 4, 1949 by: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States (“HAA” IV 1). In 1952 Greece and Turkey were invited to join, and Germany was permitted acceptance in 1954 (NATO Topics 2). Democracy means the freedom to choose and the right to speak out against injustice; any attempts at the destruction of it would not be tolerated. In beginning years for NATO it had one main concern: stop the expansion of the United Socialists Soviet Republic.
The Continental Congress was careful to give the states as much independence as possible. The Articles established a confederation of states, carefully stating the limited functions of the federal government. Even with all the changes it still took seven years for all of the states to ratify the Articles, due to preoccupation with the revolution and disagreements among states, but they finally came into effect March 1, 1781. Under the Articles of Confederation the strengths that Congress had include the power to regulate foreign affairs, to coin and borrow money, to declare war and make peace, ,and to regulate postal services. The weaknesses that Congress had were much greater than their strengths.
The economy was still facing an upward struggle and suggested that Obama had failed to deliver on promises made in his campaign. Labour made the changes to the Scottish and Welsh Assembly, by implementing proportional representation. Labour also wanted to use the SV system for the European elections to Parliament, as well as the AMS system for the election of London Mayor. In 1997, Labour promised a referendum on electoral reform, however this did not occur, and the Jenkins Commission report was introduced which suggested a system called alternative vote plus. Unfortunately, this report was not looked into any further, which caused a lot of disappointment, as many people felt like this was the best proportional system. Proportional Systems mean that all parties can have an influence, and those Parties which are not successful in the general election could be more success in the European Parliament, UKIP gained 12 seats in the European parliament in 2003 but did not gain any in the general election.
44) The Articles of Confederation weren’t very successful, they failed for several reasons. The main reason was that “the national government had no way of collecting any revenue from the states or from states’ citizens”. (p.44) After the Articles weren’t much success the constitutional convention came along. In 1787, 55 delegates from all the states got together in Philadelphia to propose changes to the Articles of Confederation. The constitutional convention started a very long process that involved a lot of compromises that helped set the constitution the way it is now.
Kristen Bodner AMH 4130 10 December 2013 The Continental Congress The American Revolution stands to be one of the most pivotal moments in American history. After about a decade or so of neglect from the British colony’s mother country, Great Britain, the Thirteen Colonies allied together in order to fight against the unjust actions of the British government. Overtime, this led to leaders of the different colonies coming together at Philadelphia during the late months of 1774 to represent their prospective territories in the First Continental Congress. Here, the delegates discussed possible solutions to their quarry against Great Britain. The representatives began with peaceful options, but after the turmoil escalated violently in Massachusetts,
