Its representations of both immigration and the idea of change, as scary and unsettling experiences could not be more realistic. However changes in our lives our inevitable, it’s how we react and deal with the changes that shape our character. This is why you get that good-feeling at the very end of the book when the main character is re-united with his family, after all he’s been through readers are reminded that no matter how strange or confusing something like a foreign city might be; it’s just a matter of time before you’ll learn to adjust and be
Foreign People Should Adapt to the Customs and Cultural Traditions of the U.S.A. When foreign people move to America, as they bring clothes and other personal articles, they also take with them an invisible cultural luggage. This luggage is not as obvious as the articles that they bring in their suitcases, but will play an important role in their adaptation to the new country's atmosphere. Too many times life becomes difficult for the foreigners just because they can't adapt to the customs and style life of the United States Of America (U.S.A.) I think, that as soon foreign adapt the cultural traditions and the system of the U.S.A. Their life will become easier. To start with, often when people from a foreign country don't fit with the American customs they became disoriented when they have to face a different system of living.
In contrast he states that when we travel we risk getting hurt, because we were busy staring at a billboard or a minute detail in a house that's not common to ones area. We must adopt or get used to considering everything we see as new so that each time we see it we can gain a different perspective and knowledge from it. When it comes to new spaces our instincts kick in and we adapt or acclimate to our surrounding, because naturally we have to blend in with the crowd around us. De Botton starts saying that he feels despaired to be home, because he had become habituated and found nothing interesting in his native England. Then, after reading some of Xavier De Maistre works, he understood that the destination doesn't matter rather than the mindset we have when we travel to exotic places or even know everyday routes.
For example, I agree with Rose’s proposal that everyday you learn something new. It is possible to continue gaining new information but it is up to the worker or person to do so. In every situation that Rose described he explained that his mother and his uncle were keen on the idea of experiencing new people and learning how their minds worked. Both of his relatives had a passion for discovering how to better their careers and how to please their customers. It is true that employees working blue-collar jobs are stereotyped to have a lower IQ than those with actual professions; however, if a blue-collar employee does not care to further their education and does not want to learn than they will be fitting into that stereotype quite
She soon realized that they had little in common to talk about. When Talking about going back home Rita talked said, “It was confusing to come home and see people thinking that you’re not doing what they are doing, which meant you would be rejecting them. The essay is explaining that education without a doubt is life changing. While attempting to better their lives students go through life changing
Sharpe’s believe this could be because of the changing attitudes of society in general towards women and the impact of feminism. Mitsos and Browne (1998) say that the service sector which is traditionally seen as women’s work has expanded. Employers usually like women in this sector as they have good communication skills and the rise in the employment of women has given girls the incentive to do well at school. Mac and Ghaill claim that the decline in male employment opportunities has led to an ‘Crisis of Masculinity’ as many boys now believe they have a less chance in a getting a proper job. This undermines their motivation and self-esteem therefore they give up on trying to do well in education and have a fatalistic attitude towards it.
If at any point they failed, they would see this as a big mistake and give up and have a lack of motivation. It can also be argued that working class children do not get the support of their parents, this is because many of the parents believe that they survived without an education, so believe that there children can do the same. Working class families can also lack in support in terms of if the child fails a particular exam, they would not give them positive feed back on how they could improve they would improve. Whereas, it can be argued that higher class families have more motivation and the parents also give the support to the children that is needed. This would have a positive influence on the child’s education as it would give them hope and not give them an opportunity of giving up.
Absent fathers can be the biggest social problem in the world. Raising children without a father can damage a child's perspective, making it difficult to adopt a masculine world. Fathers are the primary source who showed tough love, discipline, and encouraging success for their child.Due to the Absentee of father's guidance the development of a child is effected emotional, educational, and opportunity wise. I wonder if this pattern from men will ever change? In now days education is a big deal, and absent of fathers interaction effect female interest in academic advancement.
In the article, I like how Tan said, “I was forced to ask for information.” Even though I don’t have to pretend I am my mother, but I get the feeling that who ever speak better English had the responsibilities to help out the situation. Sometime it is a hard time for me to do this because I may not speak the perfect English like Tan. I will get nervous when the question comes up with many words I don’t know, or I want to say something but there are some terms I don’t know how to translate into English. For example, when I first come to America, I cannot understand the way my classmates talk to me, and there are some people speak very different English. It cost me a long time to get used to speak to different people in school.
This is becoming a problem across America, it is showing immigrants and foreigners that it is alright to speak their own language and not worrying about learning English. When entering a foreign country, it is often hard to understand one word said due to the fact that they most likely speak another language, and often there are not signs in English. Therefore it makes sense to learn that country’s language to get by and survive there, depending on how long the stay is. With making English our national language, it would make all foreigners realize that they should not be lazy, and actually try to learn some or a lot of the English language. Foreigners who enter America’s borders do not know much or any English at all.
