In addition, religion formed strong spiritual bonds among the people as well (Craig 297). Political leadership also played part in the unification of the Islamic peoples, and played part in the government system over Islamic territory and conquered territories, setting up political ideals such as “little bloodshed destruction, or disruption in conquest; adoption of existing administrative systems with minimal changes…appointment of capable governors (Craig 298). Political administration within the Islamic empire played a major part in keeping peace and prosperity in the growing empire, thus making it a significant factor in the expansion of the Islamic empire from
Therefore, it can be said that religion can be used as a form of cultural defence against the rapidly increasing West. The use of religion as a cultural defence is very evident in modern times with the rise of Fundamentalism. Those from ethnic minorities opposing Western values so much that they are willing to kill others and themselves to prove this. The clash of civilisations has been evident between Islam and the West for hundreds of years but became known throughout the world after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Fundamentalists are using religion to defend their culture in a negative way and have thus created a stigma for ethnic minorities.
When artists portray images revolving around religious icons the image may turn into something highly controversial. It is true that the constitution does give Americans freedom of speech as well as expression but there is always a fine line between pushing the envelope and burning it and sometimes these artists burn it completely. The artist who constructed the image for the Blake Prize for religious art constructed an image of the portrait of Jesus with the face of Osama Bin Laden. The image’s controversy is one that deserves analyzing because of the context of the image as well as the reaction to the image. Throughout the analysis one must keep in mind that this image was meant for a contest of religious art.
Why did President Truman choose to side with Israel and not the Arabs even though there are numerous disadvantages? Most likely, he felt compassionate for the Jews because of the tragedies they had experienced and wanted to help them. Also, Truman stated that he decided to support the Jews instead because he has to “answer to hundreds of thousands who are anxious for the success of Zionism”, while he does not have as many Arabs among his constituents. He prefers to support Israel, as it would gain him more favor than it would if he were to help the Arabs. In the end, Truman sided with Israel and helped them become a sovereign country because he believed that the benefits of the choice outweighed the
English 101 November 29, 2010 Research Final When Two Worlds Collide: Peace Be the Enemy Knowledge of the war that rages in the Middle East to bring peace to areas that have long been troubled by conflict is widespread, but not many people are aware of the peaceful war that is being fought right here in our own backyards. While United States troops struggle to bring civil rest to the far away region, another battle is being lost on the soil that they swore to protect. This battle is not one that will be won with guns and ammunition, but rather one that will be won with peace. Each day America stands by undaunted as the Muslim communities slowly gain unbreakable footholds in our society. Each Day more individuals are converting to the Islamic way of life and they are doing it through a peaceful conversion that only those with Muslim ties could have ever dreamed possible.
It has come to the attention of many Americans as of late that their right to religious freedom is supposedly being placed into jeopardy. Many people insist that the United States was established on the principles of liberty to practice religion as one pleases, and yet others protest that this nation’s critical founding documents are based on Christian beliefs. Each position has valid contentions, although there are several relatively obvious discrepancies in the argument of total religious independence. However, to accurately understand this quandary of religious dispute, one must look back to the Pilgrims that first landed on North American soil, and get into the minds of the nation’s founders. The men and women who first came to America
Many Calvinist refugees fled to Holland and Zealand from other provinces because these countries were religiously tolerant. Although William was open to the practice of free religion, he converted to Calvinism after the situations with the Duke of Alba and Philip II (479). Lastly, William and his wife, Mary, were offered by the English Parliament to be joint monarchs of now also England and Ireland (bbc.co.uk). All of these actions help support William as a powerful politique leader. Williams beliefs in religious freedom allowed the Dutch to grow socially as a country.
This, to me, surprises me considering I have Islamic cousins (I definitely have no negative feelings towards anybody because of their race or religion now). Not everything that resulted from 9 /11 was negative, though. The American people came together and helped each other pull through. People displayed nationalism, pride, solidarity, and together we commiserated. We mourned the death of the thousands of lives claimed by the ruthless actions of the terrorists.
As many cultures language is unique. Hispanics speak Spanish, however many countries have their own unique words and expressions. Muslims speak Arabic and a mix of other words from many languages, including Hebrew, Persian and Syriac, Turkish and European languages. These two cultures are very similar in religion about being faithful with their God and different with language and family life-Hispanics have an equal representation with men and women, however, women are treated inferior to men. Religion, family life and language are just a few aspects of these two different
Jihad is supposed to be an internal struggle however; people often confuse it with an external struggle in which they use violence for dominance. “Despite the fact that Jihad is not supposed to include aggressive warfare, this has occurred. Jihad means to counter such threats and assert the predominance of Islam.” Intercollegiate Review; Spring2002, Vol. 37 Issue 2, p24-32, 9p Just and Unjust War in the Terrorist Age. Many people consider Jihad to be a movement which causes a problem in the Muslim community because of the misinterpretation of the religious beliefs.
