Ethics Awareness Inventory The profession of psychology expects personal ethics are in likeness to American Psychological Association’s (APA) Code of Conduct and other key principles found in this professional field. Ethics affects how I will apply psychological principles to personal, social, spiritual, organizational issues. Ethics influences psychological knowledge and principals in relation to personal growth, health, and development. Choosing psychology as a degree choice for this writer has advantages because of ethics that influences both this writer’s professional and personal lives. Personal Ethics, Principles, and Code of Conduct in Psychology Personal ethics takes a lifetime to develop and is a continual process that ends with death. When a person is born, he or she is born with a clean slate with no pre-written knowledge of values or ethical system. One strictly relies on the nature and nurture model to obtain this value system. Over time values and personal truths change through experience and knowledge helping the evolving changes (Trevino & Nelson, 2007). Every person or group has his or her own ethical system and values. Psychology its own key principles and Code of Conduct founded by the APA. A set list of expectation in behavior is available and mandatory for professionals in psychology; as does every employer have a set of rulles (Rotta, 2007). This list cannot teach one to develop the behavior but set the tone on expectation. In practicing psychology professionally continual ethical judgment is necessary. The moral and ethical decision-making of professionals is constant and the importance of one possessing personal ethics in likeness to the APA expectation is key for application.
