Ethics is a topic in our everyday world, as adults, as children we experience it every day without even noticing. Ethics is the study that deals with good and bad behavior and the right and wrong things to do. It can be influenced by our feelings, religious beliefs, law and what society accepts. For example for a person my age, doing something you know is wrong to fit in with your rest of friends. A person can be influenced but at the end of the day they know what they did wrong and how to fix it. This relates to the quote “Do the ends justify the means” which first raised from Niccolo Machiavelli's book "The Prince"; this quote means were your wrong doings really worth it even though it had a good outcome? It can become rather controversial because sometimes it can be a life or death situation that one has been placed in. In the first article, the tradition of Ethics, speaks of the Greeks greatly who were the first to question Ethics. The first question they would ask themselves in the time during a dilemma was, “what is the good and moral thing to do?” but a moral life is difficult to achieve due to the natural self-indulgences around us. Even the Bible, God created two specific moral commitments justice and love. Justice was against the fact of taking advantage of weak, poor, etc. for personal gain. Love was a commitment to love God and our neighbor, which takes great respect for human beings. Utilitarianism stuck out to me the most from this article because it goes back to our vulnerability, something very close to home. We shouldn’t have to seek out laws and rules made by society but how we feel, and how we treat others on how we would want to be treated.
The next article was about the Concept of loyalty which is derived from three basic concepts, justice, happiness, and autonomy. Loyalty springs from the human being realizing “there is real value outside the self”, this means we are committed to respect individuals. Duty calls attention from the moral...
