Essay One of the governments responsibility is to ensure that its citizens are as healthy as possible. Is it therefore justified in taking measures to limit drinking, overeating, smoking and so on. To what extend do you agree with this? About 46% of the English men and 32% of women are overweight; an additional 17% of men and 21% of women are even obese. These are the findings of a recently published statistics which provides one times more evidence to what is already commonly known, but widely pushed aside: the population is increasingly becoming overweight. The reasons are obvious: an unhealthy lifestyle and especially nutrition and the general missing of attention to their health. The government has to deal with an increasing number of citizens who are living dangerously regarding their health. Is it therefore justified to taking measures to set a limit to drinking, overeating and smoking? On the one hand, the government is definitively responsible for its citizens and thus, in a certain way also for their health. By laws and regulations it has already established a framework of restrictions, thinking of alcohol consumption is totally prohibited until the age of 16 and harder alcoholic drinks until completing 18. Since 2007, slso smoking is no more allowed before 18. In this way, protection of young citizens is granted within a certain frame. Nevertheless, there are currently no laws regarding the limitation of overeating, which is nowadays an important factor in view of human health. And as the latest surveys show, the government cannot rely on the population´s self-responsibility in terms of their health. Especially teenagers have to be informed of the harmful effects of above mentioned products and though be able to create their own healthy and responsible lifestyle.
