The Affect of Culture On Learning Styles and Behavior Nicole Souza Marie’s parents just did not understand. It was Marie’s first time in public school and after years of tutors and home schooling, Marie was smart and bright and going to High school. What Mr. and Mrs Samuels did not understand was why their daughter was struggling in English. She was perfectly prepared for High School. Her parents got the best tutors and followed the most prestigious lesson plans they could find, triple checked that they were teaching her everything, and even went as far as to set up an appointment with every one of her teachers to make sure that she was on the right track.
Judy Jones was a teacher, then an administrator, and now, she is a principal at Greenleaf Elementary in Texas. While principal, Judy’s superintendent gave her one year to turn her failing school into an academically successful school. Judy used her previous skills as a teacher, and on the first day of school; she re-read The First Days of School, but this time, she read it from a principal’s perspective. Judy told her students and teachers to work and learn positively; and they should all have high expectations for others and themselves. She strongly believed in structure and procedure.
For instance in her algebra class , when her teacher explains the way to solve the problem or what ever they may be learning that day she would understand it the first time she hears him explain it. She always wants to know something new. Jasmine is very sweet and she can get along with everyone that come in contact with her. She will also help anyone that needs help. She would try to help someone with there work even if she doesn't know how to do it.
Embedded Assessment 1 I would like to introduce my mom, Cathy Patterson. She’s a molecular biologist, and went to Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. I enjoyed getting to interview her because it let me get to know my mom a bit more, and made me realize what I have to do to do well in high school. To start off with, I asked her if she liked high school, and asked her to explain why or why not. She said that she had enjoyed being at high school, because she loved learning, and she got to hang out with her friends a lot.
Harley is still attending high school with the plans of attending college. She had to learn to be responsible at a young age, but her responsibility has made her a better person and great mother. Harley has matured not just as a person, but as a strong-independent mother that would do anything for her son. The courage that has made her capable to raise her child has made her stronger emotionally. Commonly, teenagers that have children at an early age usually either drop out of high school or get their G.E.D.
However, when I started school I integrated well with the other students and found that many were interested in my Hatian culture. I learned to be a stronger, self confident, and self reliable woman through my experiences during my first school year in America. By the eleventh grade I already had a job and could buy some of the girly things I liked and still go to school. I would not be able to do that if I lived in Haiti and so I appreciate it. Next year I know I will miss the comforting feeling I receive when I walk into her classroom. It was an absolute honor to learn and work with Mrs. Perkins. No words can express how grateful I am for all of her hard work and effort. A good teacher is one that helps students to understand difficult concepts, but Mrs. Perkins is a great educator that not only motivates teenagers, but sincerely cares for and helps each of her students. Because of her, I am now able to thoroughly enjoy and understand music.
I am proud to be a 2010 graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High school where I have found memories of the teaching staff and all the help they provided. I will be in need of slight accommodations as provided under the students with disabilities act. Sarah Pageau Religion December 11, 2011 Per.1 8B I walked into Las Vegas Day School’s 3C classroom excited and nervous for the first day of school. My teacher was Mrs. Negrin. She was super nice and made us all feel welcome. I was looking forward to this year because I heard from the big kids that we all did a lot of fun activites.
