Elizabeth on the other hand was rather nervous about the situation and guilt began to eat away at her. The guilt had a strong effect on the younger girl. She became rather distracted, and confused. She babbled nonsense, woke up screaming at night, and became weak, refusing or even forgetting to eat. But her guilt did not give her the courage to report to Reverend Parris what was taking place, and so the meetings continued.
She is also a loner with no friends and I myself don’t have a large amount of friends. In the beginning of the novel Melinda seems like a loner with no friends, and a little insecure, “As we leave the last stop, I am the only person sitting alone”(3) She is always alone except for sometimes she hangs out with this new girl Heather. Melinda also has nothing good to ever say about herself. Melinda changes throughout the novel due to all the stress she goes through. It makes he stronger with conflicts she goes through.
She lives in her mind, barley speaks to anyone. She spends most of her time analyzing all the things around her life. She wants to tell someone how she feels but is scared that she might get rejected or no one will believe her. “I can’t believe you, you’re just jealous.”(184) when she finally tells one of her former friends from the party who is now dating Andy Beast, what happened and the reason for her calling the cops she lashes out and does exactly what she was afraid of. In reading and studying “Speak” By author Laurie Halse Anderson , my character analysis has taught me how Melinda dealt with her problem and what she went through to get her life back…it also taught me to choose my friends carefully and that keeping your anger and pain bottled up can hurt you more than you know.
It described in great detail all the long nights of drug use and partying. I felt like I had been up all night with Kristina. The ending was not at all predictable. When Kristina returns to her mom's house to get clean from the drugs and to have the baby you believe that she will succeed. After she talks to her mother about not being able to provide for the baby and how difficult it was to love him, she decides to give the baby to her mother to adopt and raise.
Stressful life events, such as death or illness or job loss are associated with the onset of insomnia (Basta, Chrousos, Vela-Bueno, Vgontzas, 2007). Anxiety, depression and chronic pain are all causes of insomnia. These are all symptoms that Suzette experiences. Her worries of not being able to go to sleep make it hard for her to fall asleep. Having trouble sleeping is a symptom of depression, which leads to insomnia.
Why would a girl starve herself to 75lbs? Why would she hide in the bathroom and vomit up a meal? Wasted by Mayra Hornbacher tells a story of a young girl trapped by the addiction of anorexia. The author makes a convincing argument that anorexia is a physical and mental illness. The author always wanted to be thinner; she had no patience for her body.
I will discuss further how I believe she was traumatized as a young girl and how the life that she lived led her to use and abuse drugs until it completely ruined her life. Maybe she was mentally ill and could not take care of herself. Or she had a personality disorder. But in the story she was a writer who was not allowed to write. To me she was heavily sedated with meds that made her hallucinate every hour. She constantly wrote

She is always by herself and when when that happens her mind starts to wander in bad places of the brain. In the book Melinda hides the fact that she was raped by Andy Evans even though it still haunts her. "I just want to sleep.
Marla stated that there is a history of mental illness in her family citing that both of her parents suffered from depression. Marla also indicated that she had some problems growing up. She stated that she witnessed her parents fight a lot and as a result spent much time alone in her bedroom. When asked about important events that she can remember from her childhood she states that at the age of 10 she experienced the death of a sibling, after which her parents moved to a new city where she felt she did not fit in. She was often taunted and teased by her fellow classmates.
