Ergogenic Aids in Enhancing Sports Performance Introduction: With heater dope testing methods and hence the possibilities of detection and life can from the sport, athletes and coaches are looking for legal ways to improve performance and / or hasten recovery. The various ways by which performance can be improved are known as organic aids. Ergogenic aids are any external influences, which can positively affect physical or mental performance. Ergogenic Aids may: • Directly influence the physiological capacity of a particular body system thereby improving performance. • Remover psychological Constraints which impact performance. • Increase the speed of recovery from training and competition. Ergogenic Aids are categorized in the following heads: 1. Mechanical Aids, 2. Pharmacological Aids, 3. Physiological Aids, 4. Nutritional Aids, 5. Psychological Aids. Mechanical Aids: Mechanical ergogenic Aids are used to provide mechanical edge by improving energy efficiency. As machines are designed to reduce the expenditure of energy and to gain more output likewise mechanical ergogenic aids are nothing but such modification of techniques tactics, equipments to gain maximum output. Eg : A skinfit racing suit will reduce wind resistance and help increase velocity at a given energy expenditure during sports such as down hill skilling and speed skating.
