Although this crafty hero has many other great qualities, these qualities are the highlights of his character. Odysseus’s best quality, in my opinion, is his sneaky cleverness. Odysseus is always thinking, and he shows it numerous times throughout his adventures. One of his most crafty plans, on page 225, was when he tied himself and all of his men to the Cyclops’s ram’s bellies and escaped from the Cyclops into their ship. Polyphemus, the Cyclops, didn’t sense that the Odysseus and the men were hiding, and when he let is rams free, the crew escaped.
Throughout the movie, Phil helped Hercules on his journey to becoming a true hero and finding his place. After an intense period of training, Phil managed to transform Hercules from a scrawny boy to a strong man. They then set out for the city of Thebes, where there were many catastrophes and problems. Hercules hoped that if he could prevent some of these disasters and help the people of Thebes, he would then be considered a true hero. In Thebes, the Threshold, Hercules tried to convince the people that he is a hero, but no one believed him.
In stories, the protagonist is always the interesting one who saves people. In “The Odyssey” by Homer the hero, Odysseus, makes this story very interesting to read. Odysseus has remarkable qualities that show the reader at the beginning of the story that he is the protagonist through analyzing his personality. Odysseus is a strong, courageous leader and his intelligence always gets him closer and closer to his goal. Odysseus’s strong leadership play’s a huge role in the issues that face him on his journey home to Ithaca.
The battle was over, Beowulf had been granted new glory: Grendel escaped, But wounded as he was could flee to his den, its miserable hole at the bottom of the marsh. Only to die, to wait for the end” (lines 498-503). Finally in Beowulf part two explains after the defeat of Grendel and his mother he became king because since Beowulf had so much honor in battle, that people learned from him and is looked up to (pg 43). These steps that Beowulf went through define what an archetypal hero perfectly and this is why Beowulf is an archetypal hero. So to the following conclusion Beowulf is an archetypal epic hero because he carries both traits of both an archetypal and epic hero.

What makes Odysseus an epic hero? Odysseus is an epic hero because he is clever, one track minded, and he got his crew out of bad situations.
Every society/culture since the creation of man has created this type of hero to embody the values and mores of that time period. To be thought of as an epic hero the character must be endowed with specific traits. A few of these traits are: having great stature, always larger than life, have traits most valued by that society (i.e. tremendous courage, humility, super human strength.) a quick wit accompanied by extraordinary intelligence and a perspicacity for the journeys he must endure and the adversaries that he will have to thwart.
His intelligence was the reason for victory in the Trojan War, tricking the Cyclops and getting revenge from the suitors During the Trojan War, Odysseus ordered for a wooden horse to be built so soldiers can hide inside of it. Him and his men hid inside and ended up attacking the people in Troy which gave them victory. This shows that Odysseus’s cunning is a virtue because without him the Greeks wouldn’t have won the Trojan War. Now onto tricking the Cyclops, Odysseus and his men came upon a cave with food not knowing it was the Cyclops. Odysseus knew he couldn’t physically defeat the Cyclops so he used his intelligence to defeat him.
Noel Mendez Mendez 1 Mrs. Hinton English 3Period 2 August 31, 2012 Epic Hero Beowulf achieved many quest of tremendous value to himself and society. In the Epic From Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel, Beowulf did something that many people aren’t capable of doing. Beowulf proves to be a man of courage, leadership, and power and he can fit the image of an Epic hero in many ways. Beowulf was considered courageous during his lifetime because of everything he accomplished. Beowulf shows bravery in line 158 “… Death was errand.” He states that he will fight to his death.
Compare and Contrast The hero’s of the Poetic Epics of ancient times encompass in some cases for generations to come the particular society’s ideals and morals. From the vain to the valiant the epic hero was in constant contact with the gods of their world adding to their somewhat immortality, strength of character, and in some cases their arrogant nature. Both Aeneas and Achilles are such hero’s in that they had the favor and the vengeance of the gods over their heads and through this essay I will compare and contrast both the method and nature of these hero’s. Aeneas of the epic Aeneid was not only comfortable with his godly lineage but resigned himself to using it as an excuse for the gods to mold and guide him through the totality of his quest. Aeneas is bread of the Trojan war of mythic times.
When I hear the word hero, I think of someone who is idealized for their courage and bravery, having outstanding achievements, and having noble qualities. Policemen and firefighters are heroes to me. Heroes can come in all different shapes and sizes and that’s important for some people to understand, just because they aren’t super tall and lusty doesn’t mean that they can’t be a hero. In the earliest English epic poem, “Beowulf”, the hero is Beowulf. As a hero, the Anglo-Saxons made Beowulf have certain hero characteristics.
