What is The Real Meaning of an Epic Hero Mrs. Nelson A 5/6 Hannah Stevens The epic hero I chose to write about is Odysseus - a great example of an epic hero. A hero is someone who has done a good deed, but an epic hero is someone who continuously does good deeds. The story of Odysseus was filled with exciting adventures, one after the other, and I felt that I couldn’t put the book down until I knew how it would end. I chose Odysseus because he is someone who has gone through so many adventures, against great odds, all with bravery and courage. Odysseus is a hero because he came up with the idea to make the Trojan horse when he was at war against the Trojans. The Trojan Horse tricked the Trojans and enabled Odysseus to win the war against them. Odysseus is also a hero because he fought through the many trials that Poseidon put him through in order to get home to Ithaca so he could see his loved ones. (Odysseus, in his tale:) ‘“Dear friends, surely we are not unlearned in evils. I think that all this will be remembered some day too. Then do as I say, let us all be won over.”’ (12.208-213). In this passage Odysseus shows that he has undeniable courage and he knows it, he knows he is a hero. Odysseus’s quest was a personal one, he wanted to return home to Ithaca and reunite with his family. His journey takes 20 years because Poseidon is trying to prevent him from retuning to Ithaca. He encounters many mythical creatures and must defeat them to continue on the path to his home. Odysseus influenced people because he was the king of Ithaca, and people saw him as hope for others in difficult situations. He influenced people all over the continent and people he met saw
