Environmental management systems are intended to formalize procedures for managing and reducing environmental impacts. Construction firms typically do not have comprehensive and certified environmental management systems. This paper deliberates the elements of environmental management systems, the relationship to the ISO 14001 standard, and the importance for construction firms to implement an EMS . This paper further discusses the present importance and benefits of implementation of environmental management systems in the construction industy . it tells the importance of environmental management system in various countries and describes the situation its implementation and cover the existing problems the developed and the developing nations are facing . it also covers the existing measures taken by the countries in order to move towards green construction and suggests what further measures should be taken to improve those actions in order to implement EMS.
