Interview with an Entrepreneur
As I looked at this assignment, I did not know if I would like it or not. I have very much enjoyed it though. It gave me a newfound respect for entrepreneurs and the sacrifices they make. The first difficult task was deciding on who to interview. I decided on my mechanic which owns and operates a local shop here in town.
Jason McGinley and his brother owns McGinley’s Auto Repair. They have been in business for over 15+ years and have built quite a reputable name for themselves. They are very reliable, trustworthy, and do excellent work. Jason has been working on cars since he can remember, his father taught him pretty much everything he knows. Jason and his brother are both ASE certified mechanics and Jason continues his education as much as needed to keep up with the technology in vehicles nowadays.
Once graduating from Lincoln Tech Jason had the vision that he would own his own shop one day, even worked as many as three jobs in order to save money to open up his own business. Over a holiday dinner his brother and he decided it was time and started the planning of opening up their business. 5 months later they had their own shop and have been repairing cars in the same shop since then.
Jason told me the first 6 years were the hardest, not just financially but the death of his mother played a role in the early struggles. Building his reputation to what it is now wasn’t easiest either. But he knew that just do what his father taught him and sooner or later his work ethic would get around, which it did and still does to this day. He’s seen plenty of up’s and down’s but knows every day when he pulls up and sees his name on the sign that he made the right choices for him and his family. The good thing about a car repair shop Jason exclaims is the fact that there’s two or three per family and they’re always going to be a need to work on them.
