‘Written in Blood’ Textual Analysis The first Sequence of the clip, ‘Written in Blood’, shows Luther (the protagonist and eponymous hero) walking towards the crime scene. A tracking mid shot is used to create a voyeuristic approach. This makes the audience feel like they are almost following Luther, creating tension and suspense. The shot also has a shallow depth of field. This shows the audience how busy and frantic the investigators and police are, and how focused Luther is on his work as he is interested only in getting to the scene of the crime.

In the majority of noir films, the femme fatale remains committed to her independence, rarely allowing herself to be converted by the hero or captured by the police (Blaser).

Brief Summary: On February 12, 1998, about 11 p.m., Philadelphia Police Captain James Brady, off duty, left a bar drunk, got into his department-issued Grand Fury, and headed home. A few blocks from the bar Brady rear-ended a parked car, causing substantial damage both to his car and to the Honda Civic he hit. “In a high crime area, stop and frisk is critical for police officer protection, for my protection really. If a young male favors his right side with his hand and it stays firm on that side, and clinches when you walk by him, if you just keep walking you could be dead. If police officers become too casual with the area he patrols and lets his guard down that’s when he gets killed. Police officers are just like everyone else, they have a family, and they kiss their kids before they go to work in the morning. They go to work alive and they want to come back the same way.”(Tim Delaney).
