English is known as the world’s second largest native language. Without a doubt, it is the actual universal language. As what I have researched, English is the official language in 70 countries, and English-speaking countries are responsible for about 40% of world's total GNP. It is defined as the media language, language of the cinemas, TV, Pop music and the computer world, meaning English can be at least understood almost everywhere. All over the world people know many English words, their pronunciation and meaning. Now, why still make it a subject in school if everyone already knows this language? It is because having it as a subject in school can give people an opportunity to learn how to pronounce strange words, which syllables to emphasize, which word comes first and also to enhance their vocabulary, reading and writing skills in English. In this self-reflective paper, I would be able to compare and evaluate myself before and after I attended this class. I have always struggled this subject not because I get low grades, but just because I don’t feel comfortable with my skills. At first, I thought this class was just going to be another normal English class where we routinely go through the motions of grammar and writing. I expected it to be uninteresting and not to mention the additional burden of assignments and paper works. I was mistaken. Our professor once said that reading helps us learn more complicated words as well as develop our reading comprehension skills, having a better understanding of what we read as we take note of its elements. Being a part of ABMA English I class, I can tell that I have learned a lot that have enhanced my skills and techniques on how to compose sentences.
